My rear window in my 86 won't go down when I hit the switch in the truck. Yota dealer wants 80 bucks for a new one. Checks the pick and pulls around here, No luck. All picked over. Anybody have one or know how to pull it apart without destroying it. Not the end of the world just kinda inconvenient sometimes. Thanks.

Possible other reasons that switch wont work:
* Rear wiper must be in exactly the right place
* Switch under one of the hard top bolts
* tailgate must not be even *slightly* out of position
* Relay might be fried

If you search in the Toy Forum for REAR WINDOW... you'll find a link to roger browns website, where he goes through the entire system and detials all of this and also shows how to jumper the relay so you can run the rear window from the console without putting the key in.

Another area of concern is the rear tailgate wiring harness, from the area of the rear window washer bag, to the tailgate key switch, these wires are known to break and cause the trouble you described. I took a meter to the harness and found the bad wires and replaced em. Works good now.
Good luck.

mine does the same thing. i only have 4 bolts in the hard top b/c i don't feel like putting them all in.

i don't know if it works on anyone elses, but if i hit the rear wiper button, as it is disconnected and then push the down for the rear window. it will trip a relay and force the window to roll down. that is the only way i can get mine down.

Forgot to say... It will still go up if I have put it down with the key. Just won't go down from the button

There are four relays in the window circuit; two concern you: one for window up , the other for window down. The toggle (interior "button") and key switch utilize the same relay for up and down, so the respective relays are good if the window goes up and down with either switch. Message: probably not the relay.

This leaves the toggle switch, wiring to the (down) relay and associated diodes.

Me thinks, it's the toggle switch.
