For those interested in seeing my cage install......

http://200.155.1.101/publicos/goto?AID=40011

The main tubes are 2" x 0,120" HREW and the others are 1 1/2".

At this point, I´ve just been bending, no welds yet. This weekend, I´ll tack it all together and put in a couple cross brace tubes. then take it out to finish the welds and paint it. For the time being , I´m not worrying about tying it into the frame, but I´ll get around to it someday. Prolly after I roll it.....:p

FWIW, I bought one of those relatively cheap hydraulic benders. While I´ll not say that it bends as well as a JD2, it does a respectable job......

Looks clean, throw some tacks in there to hold it together.:)

Doesnt it take more time to tie this thing together than it does to tack it:confused:

You used a "cheap" pipe bender?

Looks great. I have one of them benders in the garage I've used a few times on water pipe (sch40) for tire carriers. I always found tha after you get past the 45-50* it starts to look a little flat.

The bends look pretty intact, any secrets to your success?

Enlighten me will ya!

I wrote out a fawking long-ass reply to this yesterday afternoon, but when I tried to upload it the site crashed...... So you´ll now get the abbreviated version......:p

The pipe bender that I have looks sompin´ like this, only bigger and uglier.....

http://www.swadesir.com.au/benders/15B_b.html

As a PIPE bender, the dies are labeled as for use on Schedule series pipe. Therefore, I had to experiment a little to find out which dies worked the best for each tube size. I have found that the 1 1/2" die works best for the 2" tube and the 1 1/4" for the 1 1/2" stuff.

On the 2" tube, the material fits rather loosely in the die. Therefore, there is a slight tendency for it to flatten out and ripple on the inside of the bend. For the 1 1/2", it´s kinda the opposite, in that the tube does not seat in the "crotch" of the die. therefore, it gets squeezed.

However, in neither case am I concerned about structural integrity....

If it were my choice, I´d run without any flares at all, but here in Brasil, the cops get all over you if your tires stick out from the body.

They´re home-made jobs out of 03 layers closed-cell foam rubber sanwiching strips of fire hose, all that secured to the body by an "L" shaped and curved stainless steel trim piece.

Was a fawk of a lot of work to do.......

We've made mistakes, not to mention made changes half way through projects were tacking it together made it a little easier to take back apart. The finish welding comes fast if everything is in place and is correct. However that just how Tin Bender and I like to do it, it seems to have worked for us with the last 20,000" of tube thats come through my hands this year. Not to also mention the last 100 cages we've done.:)

Looks good, you just gave me quite a few ideas.

I'll be working on my cage after Christmas. I like the way you have yours configered. I still have to run a windshield, doors, and top because I use it during winter.

How are you going to support your windshield?
(tabs off of the cage the bolt to the stock holes in the frame?)

Could you take a couple of pics of your frame connections.
I'm still thinking that part through.

Thanks.....;)

I´ll be running soft half doors, so that´s why I was able to invade the door jamb with the cage tubing. For a top, it´ll be just a bikini. The tropics have their advantages.....:p

Yeah, I´m gonna support the windshield like you describe, small tabs to bolt-up with the existing holes. The coily Sami came from the factory without a foldable windshield..:(

I´ve not tied anything into the frame yet. I´m just usings sandwich plates on the floor board. I´ll get around to tying it into the frame sometime, prolly after I roll it.
