This started a few months back. My battery died and would not charge back up. The truck would still jump start fine. I replaced the battery and all was good for about a month. It wouldnt start one day so I jump started it and let it sit for an hour or so running. I drove it to the store and turned it off. It wouldnt start again. I jump started it and drove it three miles home. Got home and turned it off and tried to start it again and it fired right up. Anyone have any idea what this could be? Maybe the alternator is only working properly half the time??
Thanks,
Aaron
can't help without some digital voltage measurements across the battery. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to permanently hardwire in an 18 volt gauge in your dash.

Ill get the voltages later. How about not running, running, and 3k rpms?
Thanks,
Aaron

I had a problem with the starter clicking when I tried to start it, but only sometimes. I installed a new ground and it happened again a couple of days later. I finally found the problem to be that the positive wire from the battery was old and it just broke when I bent it while checking it. Seems like the connection was sometimes just enough to charge the batt, but eventually it would run dead. Check ALL your connections!

napa will check to see if your alternator is working properly for free.

Go to a Kragen, Checker etc. auto parts store and they'll do a free elec. sys. check. It covers batt., alt. and starter. Only takes about 5 min.

I will check the cables under the hood and I just realized that there is some ghetto rigged trailer hitch wiring in the rear I really need to remove. I need to fix the license plate lights which are hangin' and replace a tail light bulb. I have a few things to do before I will feel comfortable troubleshooting the charging system. I will work on it tonight and see if I can fix the bad wiring issues. I went home to check the voltages but I couldn't find my multimeter. I will have to search for it tonight as well.
