I just picked up an 1984 Isuzu Trooper II 4x4.. it has the 1.9 i4 and a 4 spd tranny.. it was sitting on 31's and now im wanting to go up to maybe 33's or 35's.. this will be strictly my mud/trail rig.. i was wondering where i could get gears for them? or even what axles they have stock?? and what mods should i go with?? thanks!

you have 4.55's 1989 2 door sport troopers have 4.77 thats all. 33's can be run with some modifications......a new cam(for low end torque) and a better carb,a exhaust manifold. (you have to squeek out more power but you'll probably want to do this anyway) crank the torsion bars all the way and a rear shackle lift. you stil need to put a body lift 1-2 inches. don't go wider than 10.5's cause 10.5's will scrub a little when cornering, and you will have to adjust the steering stops to keep you from turning the wheel all the way. your best bet is to do the engine mods and the lift and just go with 31x10.5's or 31x9.5 (9.5's will be a whole lot better cause you wont scrub) mount either size and the stock 15x7 rims (they will fit and squeezing them on the rim will make them taller) and run your troop. remember the trooper will never be a speed demon...but slow and steady on the trails and going places that some big rigs can't go. good luck.

i bolted 33x12.50s on my 88 4 door bone stock no rubbing even at full lock with the suspension flexed what little it would.

Will a front 8-bolt hold up to 33s? A 10-bolt, yes (such as the late 87 and later Troopers have in front) but I wonder about an 8-bolt...
