ok guys ive done a few searches and havent found what im looking for. I figure chevy's have the most 14's so this is the place to ask.

what is the usual fluid capacity for a 14 bolt (ff, full width 10.5" ring). ive got my pinion kicked up so i dont know what it should take. Ive already overfilled it once and blown the axle seals and ended up with caramel looking fluid, id like to avoid that. My biggest worry is not putting enough in and burning the pinon bearings.

any input would help i dont really care about the "book" answer but what you guys are running in the rear world and if your pinoin is kicked up at all.

thanks :flipoff2:

I would suggest pulling one axle out and then fill it up till the fluid just hits the bottom of the axle tubes..

It took just under 2 pints to fill mine up. If you blew the seals out you might wanna check your breather line it could be "clogged" up......:D

I agree with Saker! You need to double check the breather on the pumpkin! I realize it doesnt have a line on it but the nipple is most likley plugged up or you wouldnt have any pressure in it to blow the seals.

Mine took a full gallon of GL-5. Haven't blown any seals.

every 14b ff I've worked on has taken every bit of a complete gallon.

Yeah, they take a lot. 2 pints isn't even enough for a Toyota LOL

Mine is kicked up quite a ways, I filled it to the fill hole( about a gallon and a half), haven't blown a seal yet.
