Hey guys while in JV this past weekend my cousin had an unfortunate roll over on the trail adjacent to and above Aftershock. Fortunately nobody was hurt but his dog was spooked and ran for the hills. We searched for a couple of hours with no luck. Dog is wearing tags with the name Buck. He is kind of a snagle tooth looking dog and is very shy around people. I know it's a long shot but if anybody came across and rescued him that would be great.

Hope you find your dog.

I just had to leave one of my dogs (Husky) up in the mountains. she took off one morning and never came back. two days later still hadn't returned and we had to leave. I left some food and went back up three days later and she was waiting for us at our camp spot...

You searched for a couple hours?? Nobody was hurt??

Your cousin does not deserve to have a dog. I hope the dog is found and I hope he goes to a home that will try a little harder.

I have searched for dogs in the desert a few times and you need to find them in the first 8 hrs or their gone. I have stayed extra days looking for friends dogs. On New Years my buddies Boxer freaked from fireworks and split. We ran all nite and found it in the morning at another camp 3 miles away. Keep Your Dog on a rope or leave it home.

Wow thanx for the compassion. We looked for a couple of hours and returned to camp before dark and the storm rolled in...we had young children with us on the trail. My cousin and others spent the night and continued looking the next day. Buy hey why not judge...it's easy.

there is going to be @20,000 eyeballs in the area---- but a pic of said dog would help---- and if it is found, word will be left at Hammertown headquarters.

i will be looking !

Thanks for the idea, Krusty! I changed my profile pic to a picture of Buck. I'll also include a picture as an attachment, along with a flyer. Thanks to anyone who can help. My family and I would be overjoyed to have Buck back with us!

By the way, as the flyer states, I'll pay a $100 reward to anyone who can help me get Buck back. Thanks again!

I'm mostly concerned about the coyotes, but I keep holding out hope.

Put an ad in the yucca valley papers and good luck. Coyotes don't run in large packs and if he has any toughness, even a pair of coyotes might not mess with him. They can score food in easier ways without getting themselves tore up, so keep looking.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate all the support. I posted in the classifieds in three of the high-desert papers, and the local radio station put out an on-air announcement. I placed a report with the Yucca Valley Animal Control, and I call them daily to check on any findings. Buck is microchipped, and I made sure the microchip company has my information. I wish I could go out there and search some more, but my job doesn't allow me to travel that far. Thanks for keeping your eyes out this weekend. I appreciate it!

Good luck finding your dog. Did you notice that all but one are on your side about finding your dog. On Pirate there's always someone trying to get their post count up or trying to flame some one because they don't have anything productive to add. I'm stationed on the base in 29 Palms. You can call PMO (Base Police) at (760) 830-6800. Maybe they can help you find out if your dog was picked up by the Marines. I wish I could help more but I'm quiet a few miles for that base right now.

Good luck

Thanks, guys. To chvyhs, I've been more impressed by the positive comments of people like you than discouraged by the negative ones. It is amazing how some people can be, though.

To aircruiserxj, I had to look up "bump" in the dictionary to figure out what it is (lol), but I guess I've been bumping without even knowing it. Thanks, man.

To sandaddik2, thanks so much for letting me know about the post in the comp section. I hadn't checked that thread yet, so I've now posted there, too. My dog doesn't look like a border collie, but I'm still holding out hope that maybe it's him.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate all the help, support, and suggestions.

Like said before... Put some food out and a jacket or blanket that has your families smell on it.. Works almost everytime...

Saturday, someone reported that they saw a light brown dog on top of Fissure. They said it looked like a lab, but couldn't get close as it ran away. We didn't have your poster up anymore at the vendor trailer :( So there is still hope. I referred him to this thread.

Jeff,

Was the dog seen on Monday a Lab like previously stated, or did it match the photo in the flier posted in this thread?

Let me restate. The guy that said it looked like a lab saw it from a good distance. He said it looked like a lab. That dog could pass for a lab or lab mix from several hundred feet away as it's running the other direction, IMO.

Ok guys and gals, the day I've been waiting for has finally come. A very nice woman saw Buck on her property and spent a week trying to catch him. She was finally able to catch him in a trap. He still had his collar and tags. We're on our way to get him now. Believe it or not, he travelled about 80 miles over the course of 6 weeks. Aside from some weight loss and some cactus in his fur, she says Buck looks healthy. Thanks to everyone for all the support and advice! The offroad community is truly awesome!

AWESOME!

I watched a show on the Military channel the other night about rescued dogs in Iraq with certain military groups. One dog followed its unit 70 miles to the next base and showed up a week later. Corpsman got the dog outta there back to the states and lives with the family now.

Dogs are great compansions and somehow always know how to make it.

Glad he was a tough one. I couldnt imagine myself being out in that neck of the woods for a month by myself. DAMN!

Send the women and the children home.

You stay till you find your dog, dead or alive.

No excuse, you fucking suck.

edit. Read the rest of the thread, yay for you. But you still should have stayed there.

just heard about this from my wife who was told by her dad who saw it on the news. i knew exactly who it was.:)

so glad you got him back, what a great ending to a sad event.:smokin:

the worst part about this story is all the hate. i understand the need to find your lost dog, but i also understand the choice between looking for a needle in a haystack 24/7 and taking care of your family.
