I had heard that you can put 350 heads on a 327 to get more power, is this true? are fuelly heads better?thanks for any info

You can put any small block heads on any small block. The size of the valves, the compression ratio, and the cam used with them make the difference.

The fuelie, double hump, camel hump heads came on 327s. The true versions of these heads (cast # 292, 461,462) had 64 cc chambers and either had 1.94 or 2.02 intake valves. These heads will bump compression quite a bit compared to most 350 heads and they tend to flow pretty well for production heads. If you use fuelies, make sure they have hardened seats so they will work with our wonderful unleaded gas. Another good production head is of course the Vortecs (cheap even from the factory) but they do need different parts.

I thought the valve spacing for a 327-400 was to wide for the smaller v8s.

I'm with you. I know there are issues with the large engine valve sizing interfering with the bore on 305's (not sure about 307's), but the 350 head on a 327 isn't an issue. For the record, you also don't really want to put non-400 heads on a 400 without drilling out the steam holes.

As far as putting the the 350 heads on a 327 for 'more power', I'd say that's a really broad statement. If you put late model smog heads on, it isn't gonna help you at all. Look at the heads in terms of combustion chamber size (affects compression ratio) and valve size (sometimes port size as well) along with the intended use of the engine. Too big a vavle size can really hurt torque on a small bore engine, so if you are wheeling, sticking with the 1.94/1.50 valves is usually fine. If you are going for top end HP (like mudding, etc), then you should consider the 2.02/1.60 valve size.

Just FYI, just like freds40 said, the highly desired '461' casting fuelly head is a 327 head.

just my $.02

If you need Fuellies, I have a set of 1.94's that I can sell.

the 305 will not accept 1.94s and larger due to the small cylinder dia. the 4 barrel 305 heads had some where around a 1.86 intake valve dia.
