my engine has a crack in the block, isn't an issue at this point but since i am keeping my ftoy I am considering a new engine. I currently have a 22r on propane with a 4 speed std trans. trans is fine and the engine runs good but the crack is there. I am going to slowly build up parts for an engine swap and wanted to get an idea of a good setup for my rig. I am not comp legal so that isnt an issue for me, i just want something that is powerful and isnt going to give me problems. I am considering a vortec v6 with an auto trans, but that isnt set in stone. a v6 should be plenty of engine but i would like to run it on propane. i dont want to hassle with all the electronics and sensors. i like the simplicity of the 22r just not the power. I am on a budget so nothing high end, but i do want something that will last. i want to keep my xfrer cases and gears so I will need something i can get an adapter for. thoughts?

3rz. Bolt up.

Only problem I've heard is they don't oil well when on their side as well as our trusty old 22r's.

5vzfe 3.4L would also be sweet. They're surprisingly low cost ($800-1,100 around here) from wrecked Tacomas. Run it with its stock tranny and get a v6 adapter from Marlin to run your duals.

I'm going to put a GM 3800 in a 95 4Runner...going to use some Jeep/Aisin AX15 parts to adapt the tranny/clutch.

i thought about building up another 22r and runninga turbo on it also. not sure what all would be involved in that switch. i can get the toyota turbo's all day long for next to nothing, but i have never built an engine so not really sure where to start on all that stuff.

The 3rz, 2.7L is an easy sway with no new adapters, nearly the same size, and lots more power.

My full bodied Tacoma with 4.10s and 40"s would outrun minitrucks with 5.29s and 37"s all day.

Two new motor mounts and a little wiring is mo betta than a complete drivetrain removal and with a chevy motor. I paid $550 for mine with the oil pan swap done and all of the wiring off the whole truck.

A buddy up the street has a wrecked 4runner with a newish 3.4 and auto in it for $1200. Good title and eveything. Could get what you needed for $500 after scrapping and selling the other parts. I was thinking about it, but you'll need a minimum of 1 more
adapter and I just don't like autos.
