Marlin and Mustard Dog aren't F-Toys. Not sure how many were even in the race this year.

Pretty sure there were only 2 ftoys. Hobie and In The Pink. Both of those DNFed.

The Marlin Xchassis did finish somewhere in the mid20s. Mustard Dog was a DNF...busted oil pan.

Ouch,
Isn't that two busted oil pans in two years?

The X Chassis are in the same family.

I think only Hobies is an f-toy, In The Pink has a four link rear

ya guys, i was the only FTOY. mike stowe was running the "in the pink" car but he's four linked. mike broke an output shaft and i broke tie rod ends but thats not what took me out of the race. long story but i'll post up later.

In The Pink didn't get a starting spot, but Kevin Sacalas' 4435 Big Ugly wasn't going to be in running condition for the race, so Kevin drove ITP with Mike Stowe co-driving.

How many ran this year?

Hobie.

Literally.

Mark James came through Checkpoint 10 (end of 1st lap) and headed into the pits without him.

I was sorry to hear you guys didn't head out for your 2nd lap. :(

oh mark headed out for the second lap. they wouldnt let me back in the car which i totally don't agree with. but mark went over to back door only to be held up for 20 min while some guy refused to use his winch and try to drive backdoor. so mark ran the winch rope over the dudes car to the winch point and mark told him to move or he was going to get driven over! the crowd started cheering at that point to drive over him. so the guy backed down and mark winched up the first fall and drove the second. he prceeded to roll on resolution because he went the wrong way as he had never driven the car or the trail before and he didnt have anyone with him to help co drive. he did all he could.

if i would of been allowed back in the car to drive, we would of had plenty of time to do another lap and finish.

I'm the co dawg for team 4435. We had a trans failure just hours before the race. We teamed up with in the pink. Having never wheeled an f toy i was amazed at how well they do. Kevin passed sever cars in the desert and crawler around many rigs that were stuck on outer limits. At pit stop 1 keving jumped out from driving and in the pink took back over. It was great to team up with such a great team. F toys rock.

Wouldnt let you back in the car?

Hope you are alright now, and nothing serious, just a error on the side of caution.

To clarify: Hobie exited the car and ran like 4 miles to the remote pit to get a tierod end and more tools. Another competitor ( wish I knew who it was) was gracious enough to take the parts and tools to Mark but there wasn't enough time to get Hobie back to the rig. Race officials would only allow Hobie to re-enter the car where he left it or at the remote pit so Mark had to drive it alone back around to the remote pit. I must say that watching Mark pull that winch line over that rig and make that line was the coolest thing I witnessed all week. Mark you're my hero buddy!!

ya i was laughing so hard. i was imagining what the driver must have thought when he saw a winch line running down his window spreader and over his hood:laughing:

I agree, those people that were blocking the fall needed to be murdered.

I had understood he could not catch a ride to catch up with Mark, but I didn't understand that he had to meet up with Mark at only the remote pit or where he left it. :(

Could you have physically ran overland and met him at a different spot?

I was standing next to SB when Hobie called him on my radio.
Hobie detailed how and why he left the car on course, and that he went to the remote pit overland.
The question I heard was if Hobie could catch a ride.
That answer was "no" (outside assistance).

This is completely my guess, but if he had asked if he could run overland with no outside assistance, I suspect (again, my guess) that he could have met Mark at a location further down the course.

Radio traffic gets very hectic and rushed during a race. It's hard to get all the details across that you could communicate in a face-to-face conversation. :( Also, the race organizers' time on race day is taken up by a million and one questions, and I know everyone is reluctant to ask followup questions. I don't want to sound like I'm Monday-morning quarterbacking this or playing the "what-if" game.

Hobie, I apologize.
If you were capable of running overland and wish I had understood that hearing your radio transmission; I absolutely would have suggested to SB that you were within the spirit of the rules, and could have caught your car without outside assistance.

ya no worries.

here's the problem i see.

after the race has started why is it okay for a alternate driver to drive in a pit car from main pit to the remote pit and get in the race car and drive or co-drive.

but it isn't okay for me to drive in a pit car from remote pit to main pit and rotate drivers and switch out there instead.

whats the difference? once i ran on foot back to remote pit, i am at ground zero and back to square one. just like i never left it and mark is driving on his own.

It was great teaming up with you guys. I know it wasn't the horsepower you are used to, but I'm happy that it performed well while Kevin was driving. In fact, one of the first things I said to Kevin and Shannon when they came to us was *you know you aren't winning with us, right? * We would have liked to have finished but it just wasn't our race day :( :roxy:
