I'm curious, which market is this vehicle for? Germany/France, or Third World-spec?

NICE truck!

How he got it over here?

I've got a file as thick as a phone book on Importing rovers and I still couldn't find a sure fire way, other than completely dissambling it over seas and sending it over with other junk parts in containers. I've seen it work a few times.

But then you would have to register it as a kit car or get a VIN# & Papers from a wrecked or old rover....

Any ideas?

Ideas on what?

How to illegally import a LR? How to legally import a LR?

How to reconstruct a LR? How to build a kit-car that 'looks' like a LR?

Lots of answers, you just have to find the right people to talk to.

It's easy once you know what to do. Here's a hint: Go talk to the OSP. They'll help you start.

Other than that you'll have to figure it out for yourself. I have, twice now, and if you *really* want to know how to do it you'll figure it out. If you just want to know, but have no plans to actually do it, you'll be a nay-sayer just like all the rest.

Good luck!

I had some interest in this truck, so I emailed the seller for info. He sent nothing in return and asked for my phone number to call me back. Sounds kinda fishy to me. I will keep you guys informed of what I find out (like VIN and exact title specs).

I brought my 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser with me from Venezuela in 1996. Took me a whole year to figure out the paperwork. Since then I've been interested in non-US Land Cruisers and Land Rovers imported to the US and have seen dozens of importations ranging from quasi-legal to very dark gray imports and everything in between. I've also seen about 20 or so 100% legal importations, mostly of older trucks.

I second Serious One's comment, if you *really* want it, you'll figure it out. One word of advice. When/if you do, *BE DISCREET* about it, there's been a couple of incidents in the Land Cruiser community with gray market trucks and loose tongues. Heck, on the 1,600+ member Land Cruiser Mailing List there was an ugly incident a few years ago involving a guy bragging about his very gray market import and a fellow Cruiserhead who also happened to be a US Customs agent. Be careful, a friend of mine had a German-spec diesel Land Cruiser taken away from him and crushed.

If you can figure it out, all the more power to you, I love coming across other grays, I truly feel its empowering to the enthusiast community and the only reason the US clamped down on individual importations was due to pressure from the automaker lobby, who claiming safety concerns (yeah, like a German-spec Land Rover is a lot less safe than a US-spec one) but really hating losing sales to individuals, succeeding in almost closing down this venue.

Hey guys, i just looked at that ebay site, i wouldn't get too exited about it. it's *just* a plain defender 110 double cab Td5.

nothing rare about it at all, there's loads over here. it's not even a county specification interior or extrerior, just plain conniston green with vynil trim.

as for the 42mpg...... sheet, my Td5 110 just about manages 20~22mpg. and it's bone stock.
5 speed HD transmssion? they mean 'stock R380'... that's all you can get for defenders nowadays!!
top of the line Lr suspension? they mean crappy woodhead oil filled shocks and short stiff springs???? :flipoff2:

and $48,000??? about $32,000 here brand new! they're trying to rip ya' all off!

and as for the Td5 being the "most reliable motor"..... my Td5 siezed up last monday, with 38,000miles on the clock!!!

a pile of shite IMO!!!

There's a different perspective, lol.

Nice reality check though.

There was one very similar to this for sale last year, claiming to be the only one in the US legally imported and the guy wanted $167,500 and claimed he'd spent $60,ooo just to make it legal through a registered importer.

I too have seen a number of grey market trucks and am awaiting a friend importing a 110. He'll get it here, I'm sure.

With all of the 109s available legally, and certainly, plent of recent vintage drivetrains, why not buy a 109 and put a 3.9 in it? We are almost to the point where the stage ones will be legally importable.
Peace,
Paul

Theres a beautiful oxford blue TD5 110 here in Seattle, that came in through Long Beach. It was around 8,000 to get it licensed the guy said.
