Does anyone know where's the cheapest place in the US to get Detroit Lockers for a Defender 90?
Thanks

I don't know that they are the absolute cheapest, but I highly recommend the guys over at EE.

Keep in mind, that if you blow a halfshaft on a D90 rear detroit, that chances are you will take the diff out with it. Informal survey I have done is about 75% failure rate (including mine, which tore the teeth off of all of the innards of the Detroit).

Thanks for the info. I'll check it out with EE.
About the half shaft, been there - that's why this time i think i'll upgrade the half shafts as well.
What do you think about Detroit and Ashcroft halfshafts combination?

BTW - does anyone know the weight of the detroit? i just remember it was heavy ...

My experience with the halfshafts is that Ashcrofts twist and twist and finally fail (mine was well over 720 degrees), and the Maxidrives do not usually twist (except at the inside edge of the splines) and are more static. I have only seen one Maxidrive axle failure (24 spline) and many Ashcroft axle failures (all with twist).

If you get the Ashcrofts, I suggest you pull the shafts periodically and check for twist. Anything over 360 and you should pull the shafts and use them as spares.

Do you know if anyone has looked across applications to see if this is a common failure with Detroits on all vehicles?
