Yukon is a great gear. Never had a problem and have instaled over 100 sets here at the shop. Yukon is the only gear I will install unless customer request something else.

ditto on the shop thing, we have installed over 100 sets also...

I think it depends on the install and our guy is damn good, but from what I have seen yukon is comparable to the best....

Genuine has a lifetime warranty!

"even under improper instalation" it says in their add..

just because the brand is "cheap" , or offers a lifetime warranty doesn't mean they have a good product, just look at Craftsman tools. They are good tools but for a tuff job don't rely on their strength cause they do break! Over half on the Yukon brand is made over-sea's  , I'd never even consider Genuine Gear those are THE lowest quality gears you can get, sure I can get a free replacement but when I'm on the trail and the ring gear strips I'm going to be PISSED! buy quality gears it's worth the piece of mind.

and I have never heard of a problem with Yukon gears and I am willing to bet more than half(I would say 90%-95%) of competitors use them and I haven't seen anyone have a problem solely related to their Yukon gears:rolleyes:

I am pretty sure that Yukon is Randy's in-house brand

I called drivetrain wharehouse one time and they told me that yukon gears were made by the same people and in the same factory as genuine gear. I ordered the yukon because they will probably never need the free replacement warrenty. Sometimes you gotta go with your gut.

I've got about 25k on my Yukons(529's). Daily driver including Tahoe to the Bay Area twice a month for two years, 15-20 rubicon and fordyce runs. No problems so far.

So what brands are "quality"? Not being smart, just wondering your opinion. Thanks.

Well, I'm glad your Yukon's are holding up after 500 miles (that's right around the break in point). I've heard lots of comflicting stories about Randy's quality, that's enough for me not to trust them right there plus the fact that it says right on the add "import gears". I'd say there are a lot of good Yukon gear sets, what ever application is needed gets the lowest bid manufacturer set. All Randy's does is rebox the stuff, i.e. some Dana axle Yukon gear sets ARE Dana gear sets. US Gear makes gears for Yukon as does a lot of other companies, but like I said I don't trust them and I'd damn sure ask what I was REALLY getting if I bought some. Richmond is a good company but the gears tend to whine because of the way the gears are cut, most Hot Rod people only buy Richmond that says a lot about them right there. I've heard different stories about Precision too, some people around here swear by them and others hate them. I've never heard bad stories about US Gear, so other then Dana/Spicer gears ( I've mostly owned those axles;) ) I think I'll try them when I regear my 14bolt but I think I'll stick with Dana for the 60 unless the US Gears are a better deal:confused: Anybody else have a preference on the matter?

I'm running Yukon 5.13's in my D44s for about a year now. Self installed. No problems or complaints so far. Good stuff.

lets see some facts on the over half of yukon gears are made over seas. all the stuff from yukon i have seen has been dana/spicer or us gear. my d44 gear set i got via a randys distributor came in a yukon box but was a dana gearset. i know thier set10 beairng/seal sets they sell are in yukon wrapping but are timken bearings and seals. i will buy yukon again and if for some reason it comes in with china stamped on them somewhere they will go back, but so far i have not heard of that case ever.

as for genuine and superior a friend of mine sent me an email about those, here is a taste of what he had to say:

" That guy with the 14 bolt bought Geniune gears (POS) some of the ring gear bolt holes weren't even drilled and tapped straight, I stripped out about 10 bolts trying to get the 14 bolt ring on the diff.
Hey do me a favor and tell these crack heads on the MAJ board to get either Dana/Spicer or Precision ring and pinion gears with Timken bearing, that is the absolute best and will last forever and help alot with installation. I see them getting prices on this Superior pieces of shit. The worst gears in my opinion is Geniune and Superior."

there are several levels of the Yukon gears. Some are imported, others are US Gear, Precision, or Dana/Spicer - and others yet I am unsure of the maker. If you buy the "value" line of gears, you're almost guaranteed to be getting the imports...

I used Spicer R&P's and Yukon install kits in my 60's.
Does that count? :flipoff2: :D
