: a little twist on a common mod... dakota springs
imajeep2 02-13-2011, 09:04 PM I need about 9 inches of lift in the rear of my 99 xj.
Im going to start with dakota springs, use blocks, and a anti wrap bar. Im thinking of pulling the stock rear bumper and shackle hangers, beefing up the frame back there, making a bumper and if possible using the complete dakota spring pack, and making new shackle hangers off the rear bumper.. the dakota leaves are about 4 inches longer from eye to eye i think, which would allow rhis to be possible. Where is the center pin hole? Will it move the axle foward? If anything an inch or 2 back would be great... Anyone done aomething like this? Pics would be sweet.
Thoughts?
GeneticDisposition 02-13-2011, 09:11 PM I like all your thoughts except the blocks. Never dune it or seen it dune but it seams to make scene have at her.
imajeep2 02-13-2011, 09:19 PM Im going to do everythkng i can to avoid using them(blocks) but right now, i just dont see how ill get the lift without them in there. Im hoping that the bumpr will add about 3 inches, then some shackles that add another couple, and 4 inches of dakota will be close to what i need... Blocks suck. I dunno.....
Fudpucker 02-14-2011, 01:06 AM I need about 9 inches of lift

x3 Wtf do you need 9 inches of lift for?
xjdoug 02-14-2011, 07:30 AM The fail is strong with this one methinks
imajeep2 02-14-2011, 07:35 AM Cause im goin 38-40s and keepin body for snow, with heat
imajeep2 02-14-2011, 07:47 AM And csuse im running 8.5" in front
whitneyj 02-14-2011, 08:09 AM I'm running 38's with plenty of room for 42's on 5" of lift. I'm completly sealed and my heater roasts me out.
imajeep2 02-14-2011, 08:56 AM Really.... i couldnt even fit 35s under mine with 5"
im looking for clearance so i can clear snow, and only drag axles if possible.
listen, id be content to run it with less, and thats why im looking for like 7 or so, and then throw the 2" blocks to it if i have to.... like i said, i hate blocks, i just want to make sure i can clear skinny boggers, or even wide ones if i find a deal on them
my goals are simple, 38-40s , and stretch the rear by an inch or two, keep heat. other than that, im not too worried.
i dont use it on major rocks, so im not concerned there, but ive got a 70 acre wood lot, and some deep holes on it... clearing stumps, and ruts are an issue. there will be some rock obstacle playing of course, but its predominantly going to be used dragging firewood, and transporting us when hunting.
ONEtonXJ 02-14-2011, 09:02 AM mine has 40s and heat.................
i'm only using 3" springs too....

You just tried combining Yoda and Jar Jar into one person. Epic fail lol.

You need two things
1. Google.
2. Sawz-all with sharp blade.
Remember low is better. Unless you have invented a time machine and plan on travelling back to the late 80's and getting on the cover of Fourwheeler magazine. Then rock on with your bad self.
imajeep2 02-14-2011, 06:33 PM Ive gotta say if u can make a time machine out of a hot tub, an xj would be great.... And for the 80s... Hell i loved tue big hair and hi pitched screamer metal.... Pantera and g n r here we go..
mud_slinga 02-14-2011, 06:58 PM running stock durango leafs out back with Timmays slider boxes.....I plan to clear 43s (I'm clearing 36s with PLENTY of room) with no issue and I still have a body and heater.....It's on a ZJ though :flipoff2:
1stgenxxx 02-14-2011, 07:13 PM 9"lift=fail time
heapxj 02-14-2011, 08:23 PM my junk has 6.5" of lift, 38's and there's no issues with rubbing though I did do alot of cutting

Tires will do that for you.. lifting the body way up isn't the answer.
Check out this build from Iceland, those guys know snow wheeling.

you fail for catching his fail...
94xjstud 02-15-2011, 09:25 PM I used the main leaf off a Dakota and the rest of a 4.5" rusty's leaf pack with a stardard two piece shackle to get about 6" lift. The Dakota main was sitting on the rear crossmember so I built a shackle mount box using 1/4 that is welded and bolted. Here is the best pic of the set up:

imajeep2 02-15-2011, 09:42 PM That was exactly what i was looking to see... Perfect picture, shows good reference points. So, my bumpe theory will be very adequate
94xjstud 02-15-2011, 09:48 PM Remember that the picture is basically at full droop. At ride height I have about a 45* angle. I think that having the mount any further back would give a bad shackle angle.

try trimming the fenders, 35s fit on a 4.5 inch lift easily.
you really need 4ds to drag fire wood?:homer::p
