If you have a line on a shaft from a 82 model I would suggest to go buy a tape measure and take a few measurements to see if it will fit. I bought a 30' tape measure,it has numbers from 1 to 360 on it all evenly spaced out for ya. Good tool to have lying around to see how many numbers long thing are.:D

By the way welcome to Pirate:flipoff2: :D :flipoff2: :D :flipoff2:

don't the long bed trucks have the same wb ? and what about the 84 & 85 trucks? They have the same wb and use the same trannies.

I have an 85 Xtra cab that had the two piece rear driveshaft. I replaced it with a one piece from an 87 4Runner.

I'm talking the main rear driveshaft. Thanks, Zym

In that case, no. The 83 truck will not only be the wrong length, it will laso have the wrong bolt pattern on the driveshaft, and likely use a different bolt size.

My suggestion is to look for a rear driveshaft from an 86-88 Xtracab truck like yours - it should bolt up then.

Really?? Isn't the 4Runner WB about 9" shorter than an x-cab?

On the bolt size, I'm pretty sure '84-88 use the bigger bolts.

And yes, an '82 shaft will be too long, I still have a shortened one that was in my '85 x-cab.

My buddy has a '85 toy pick-up reg. cab long bed. He shortened his frame 9" to use a shortbed. Can he use a driveshaft from a reg. cab shortbed? And what years/models will fit? (His wheelbase is now 103")

Thanks

Sorry, not quite. If you converted to dual cases at the same time, and ran a 2" spacer, that would work! :)
Maybe it was from a longbed? There were single peice longbed and xtra-cab shafts available. Many automatics had them, but they are about 1-1.5" too short. May work fine for low lift...

If he made it a shortwheelbase then of course a driveshaft from a shortwheelbase truck will work! You knew that! :)

84-88 and 89 runners rear shafts will work.

This should solve part of the problems here.

Toyota Bolt pattern listing:

U-Joint pattern '79 thru '83 (maybe early '84)
3.340"[84.8mm] Bolt Cirlce
2.200"[55.9mm] x 2.525"[64.1mm] Rectangular pattern
(4) holes .335"[8.5mm] Diameter

CV-Joint pattern '79 thru '83 (maybe early '84)
3.575"[90.8mm] Bolt Cirlce
2.350"[59.7mm] x 2.670"[67.8mm] Rectangular pattern
(4) holes .335"[8.5mm] Diameter

U-Joint pattern '84 and later
3.323"[84.4mm] Bolt Circle
2.350"[59.7mm] x 2.350"[59.7mm] Square pattern
(4) holes .413"[10.5mm] Diameter

CV-joint pattern '84 and later
3.636"[92.4mm] Bolt Cirlce

i am going to have to go measure this to give you numbers, but when i pulled my T100 two piece shaft for some work, i checked the flange pattern on the CV flange at the carrier bearing and the flaneg pattern where it comes into teh tcase. they were the same. i did it, so i would know if i could just extend my rear cv shaft to 57" after the dual cases.
