Well I finally got my tires, the big Michelins. I have had my chassis mocked up for a while at the correct height for these tires, engine sitting in it etc. I can read a tape measure, and know what 53" is, but DAMN those suckers are HUGE!:eek: I really hope I did'nt go too far off the deep end on this. Station, you think I'll bust my 404's with a SBC and auto? Are custom 300M shafts in my future? are my mall crawling days through?:flipoff2:

hell.... the mall parking lot will empty out when the see u comeing.

They are HUGE aren't they.

I don't know if you will break or not, but I hope for you that they hold up well. I suppose it is going to have allot to do with how/where you drive. Are you planning to run rear steer?

Talking about building up a chassis..

The top of my cage is only going to be 2'6" above the top of my tires. It is going to be an interesting looking ride for sure.

You don't happen to know anywhere to find a front axle do you?? This real cool guy from Indiana drove me down a rear axle....and sold it for a reasonable price too. Oh wait he also said he was running 53's on a mog axle rig......hmmmmm:flipoff2:

Hey weps, has it happened yet? Have the tires started to look normal to you yet? I know for about the first week, that I had mine they shocked me every time I saw them. After a little while, they just started to look normal.

Just for someone who hasn't thought about the size of these tires. A 36" tall tire is about even with the top of the wheel. There is still 16" of tire above that.:D

Yea, they do that don't they. At first it's those 35's are big, BUUUUUUUUUT not big enough. Then it's those monster 44's and man are they HUGE!! and then it's 48's and the (I knew that's what it needed ) , and then 53's and so on, and so on, and, well you guys know what I mean. LOL. Are we not all crazy or what??:p

i have to admit, they didn't look that big on the internet. when the guy drove up with them , my buddie and i both said o shit. i have to admit the more i walk past them the smaller they look

i just cant talk myself into putting them on anything. i have them sold to a local guy here. but i still haven't seen the cash. i was going to put them on my fj 40 404axles project, but there is no way it will fit in my 24'wells cargo trailer. so i have decided to sell them and just go with 44s. mike

Yeah Station, they are starting to look normal. I even took one to thr tire place to get mounted. I thought they might say something about the size etc, all they asked was "which side you want out"...
I am planning on the SBC not because I think its the "best" engine, but is probably the best to use in a swap/buggy/project. My current carbed M715 never fails to screw up, and I'm sick of it! The 53" tired rig will have a tuned port SBC:D
