: few really easy questions...need help
BigBronco1988 11-17-2002, 11:54 AM ok.... well.. I am a ford guy... yes I said it. I LOVE fords... call me a traitor call me what you like. but I sold my 88 bronco (8" lift,35" tires ect ect) I could not keep up with the bill for the damn thing breaking... So i decided 2 look around at other vehicles. I know never to buy another mans lifted truck... but i came across this really really nice 1997 dodge ram sport 1500.. its got a 5" suspension lift,3" bodylift,37" swampers,4.56 gears, competition sterio with 2 12" woofers...new 6x9"s whole 9 yds its a show truck... never been wheeled...hes had it in magazines and what not... now from my experiance.. if you buy a truck and you jack it up till the cows come home... if you drive it respectfully your parts breakage will be very minimal compared to if you wheel the truck hardcore... so suposidly this truck is show quality. i still ahev to go and look at it but from what hes saying ( obviously its going to be in his favor ) its a pretty nice truck... seems like he really takes care of it... but seriously you guys. the bronco i had i BEAT to everliving shit.... i really really beat the piss out of that thing thats shy i got rid of it. cause im going to college. and i need somthin more reliable.. i would get nervouse everytime i had 2 turn the key. i didnt know if it would start hahah.... but do you guys think i should take this truck into consideration.. I dont plan on wheeling it cause ill be in college. itll mainly be show/daily driver (not much driving cause I'll be living on campus. maybe the occasional run down town or home which is only about 30 miles) so what shoudl i do.. the truck just cracked 100,000 miles and most of the miles were put on b4 he lifted it... hes asking a really decent price for it too... gimme some opinions here yall THANKS!!! :D

ya its called colorado k5 :flipoff2:
BigBronco1988 11-17-2002, 07:34 PM all i want to know is if it would be wise to buy this truck in your opinion.. i knwo people dont suggest on going larger than 36s on a ford TTB... what is the usual max tire size on a dodge front end?
FULLSIZE 11-17-2002, 07:43 PM as far as i would go would be a 36 and you'll still break if pushed hard with a locker. if you take it easy you could put 38's on it. 38's and bigger would be time for a 60.:D
is that what you were looking for?:flipoff2:
GRMhick 11-17-2002, 10:48 PM i break parts with 33". Does that make you feel any better?
But honestly, with a beefy track bar, and a K link steering system, it is good for 38". Just keep it open up front. At that point the weak link is the ball joints. BTW, at that milage, expect the front bearg hubs (or whatever they call them) to start to wear out. they seem to last about 110-150k miles. I thought about 37", but i coudlnt justify it since i have yet to get really stuck with mysetup currently with the trails i hit with it (and yes it is because i dont wheel it hard.. most of the trails i run, i can also run in my stock 4 runner, but the ram is 300% nicer to take on trails).
If it all looks good, and it is built well (i have noticed alot of show trucks are jimmy-riggged to make it lifted the highth the owner wants, but it doesnent really work too well). BTW, as a college student myself, i woudlnt buy this truck again. Too many problems. If i had to do it over again, i woudl have gone with a 93 cummins dodge. Much more reliable, and those trucks are build much better (just NEED a lift so they dont sit on the bump stops, and i woudl also recommend crossover steering).

GRMhick 11-17-2002, 10:54 PM oh, and on another note, i dont beat the piss out of my truck, i put on ALOT of road miles (around 36k a year). SO far broken parts ot date for me is a steering alignment adjustment link, bent steering arm, 1 transmission (61k), 2 transfer cases (34k and 61k), 1 rear yoke on the driveshaft into the transfer case (61k), head gaskets (52k), oxygen sensors (58k), plus basic maintance. But i have to say, it has been extremely reliable, never once hesitated not to start. Always ran great. works awesome on mild trails. With a rear locker i know i coudl do ALOT more with the truck (already i can pretty much keep up with my buddys locked GMC on 35"). I really think it all comes down to what you want in the truck.

PS. i bought the truck at 55k miles, so i dont know exactally everythign else that broke before that point. Just alitttle FYI. and also, i have 83k miles on it now.
GRMhick 11-17-2002, 10:55 PM also another note, supposidally you need a 10" lift to make 37" not hit off road. Just somethign else ot think about.
