I am having problems with my left Turn signals on my 1975 FJ-55. The rear works, except it is not blinking (i assume do to the fact that the fornt does not work at all). About the front turn signal, my parking lights do not work because of burnt aout bulbs, but i dont care about that. The entire "Turn Signal Unit" is not getting electricity. i checked the fuses and they are ok. So i have decided to just run a new wire from the switch. So i took off the plastic from the steering column and trace the wire to where it dissapears behind the dash. I assume this is where the unit that makes the current pullsate so the lights blink is. so my question is where doi go from here? do i have to remove the dash? Should/can i just bypass the "pullsating current" unit and buy a general one for a hot wire fix? please help.:confused:

Bypassing the "pulsating current" won't cure your problem.

1. Replace all bulbs that look questionable.

2. Replace signal relay. this is the round think that clicks when your blinkers are on.

This is the cheap and easy stuff to check first before you dive or start cutting into the wiring harness. Just my $0.02.

where is the "signal relay"? on the steering column?

Check the bulb sockets for corrosion. Check bulbs to see if they are burnt out. Then check you grounds.
My old 74 had the same problem, ended up being a combination of all of the above. A couple of bulbs were burnt out, bulb sockets were corroded on the inside, and two grounding points were corroded. One was where the front turnsignal mounted to the fender, and the second was the ground for the rear lights on the bumper. :skull:

The signal relay is mounted near the fire wall under your stearing collumn. I priced that out, as I was told its Land Cruiser Specific, and Toyota wants like 100 bones for it... of cource thats canadian, and is only like $6 American.... I have a similar problem, which has been plagueing me, and I still cant figure it out... I think it may just be the switch itself, but who F$#%!@* Knows.

You do not mention if the right side is working. If the right side is working that eliminates the flasher from being your problem. If the front (or rear) light is not working your blinker WILL NOT blink. Before doing anything else, make sure the front and rear lights are working. You do not need to go chopping up the stock harness to find out that there was nothing wrong with it.

I had to replace the flasher on my '40...That sucked. Hard to get to, highly likely the wiring is brittle. But it's not Toyota-specific, you can use a stanndard 2 wire flasher from any auto parts store.

That said, if any of the lights blink, then tho flasher is not the problem.

Is the signal base secured tightly to the body? If not you won't have a ground, and no signal.
