well i did a bunch of research but came up empty.i am planning on running 39.5 tsl's and was wondering what ratio of gears would be the best to run.i have a 5 speed.i had 38's before and ran 5.13's ,it seemed to be fine on the street and okay on the hywy ,it could of had more balls though.so now im thinking of running 5.38's

will i regret it or should i stick with the 5.13's.i just dont want to be running my 6 cyl in the high rpm's......

thanks for your suggestions fellas

i'm running 5.38's with 38's and it turns about 2850 at 60mph in 4th,but in fifth it runs about 2475 or so. i'd keep the 38's and sell :D the 39.5's. just a thought.

hahahahah.okay so if i go with the 38's instead of the 39.5's think ill have a problem selling them ahahahahah!see i have the rear gears for my axle still in the box, need to get the fronts but i just dont wanna keep fawking around with the axles.want to do it once and for all.know whatta mean.i think 5.38's with 39.5 is the ticket though....

if you have the 5.38s' for the 60 then you should probably sell them too(i know who would buy them;). just kidd'n, since you drive yours on the street that would be pretty decent with 39.5's. if i should happen across a set(yours) i would go a little deeper.

Just for reference, I have a 99 TJ, 4.0L, 5 speed. I run 5.38's in my 44/60 with 38" TSL's. Highway RPM is a little high, about 3000 at 70 MPH in 5th. Good low end tourque. I tried on a set of 39.5's and the lowend was still OK and highway RPM was better (lower).

Based on your post, 5.38's/39.5's will perform similarly to 38's/5.13's.

Good Luck with the swap.

Definitly go with the 5.38s. I'm running them with my 5-speed, 37" combo. My jeep is still on jackstands for another couple of days but two friends runs the same combo and says that it is nice, tad high when going over 75 but great around town. With 39.5s you should be fine.

It's only 5% difference, so I don't think it matters.
If you already have 5.13's, run em.
If you are buying gears anyway, go 5.38's.

I ran 5.13's with 39.5 Boggers on 15x10 alum wheels with the stock 6cyl. It barely had the power to get itself up hill. NEED MO POWER.

I agree. If you don't gain almost one full turn of the pinion, why waste the dough? Unless you like giving away money, in which case, pm me and I'll give you my address:D
