okay, ive heard different things on the need to attach the cage to the frame. assuming that its not totally necessary, why would it matter whether or not the seats were mounted to the cage? and on that note, why would the harnesses need to be attached to more than the seat if the seats are securely mounted to the floor?

ok lets say ya roll and not the happy crawling lay it on the side roll but a good high speed playing in the sand roll.
1)cage and frame not attached: vehicle goes one way, roll cage goes the other.
you die or get severly hurt
2)seats not mounted to cage: see above but replace the word "roll cage" with the word "seats"
3) seats are mounted to floor with harness/belts mounted to floor: see #1 replace the word "roll cage" with the word "seats" and now emagine you being still attached to said vehicle via those belts/harness.
4)belts/harness are mounted to diffrent location than seats: see#1 and emagine you being between the belt that is connecting the cage to the vehicle.
I hope this helped

also look at it this way..
take a hard roll onteh rocks.. and ur body isnt in the greatest shape. say ur body mounted cage buckles the sheet metal and the cage colapse on u.. gonna hurt..
seat attached tothe body and cage to teh frame..
have u never had a seat break pull lose on ya?
hell ive had it happen on d.d.s
always want the cage and the seat to connect and the seat belts to gotothe cage also...
just my 2 cents worth

Seats need to be tied to the cage so that if it (the cage) goes away from the vehicle, you are still in the cage and cozy:D The cage needs to be tied to the frame because a) it needs to have a solid mount to be functional (don't try and build what the big three call a "crumple zone", cause you'll be pickin up Jeep parts all day after a good roll) and b) the tied in cage will strenghthen your chassis.
If you leave your seats on the floor and incure a severe roll, you will be stuck to a 3500 pound ball of rolling metal, and you will lose. ;)
If the seats are mounted to the cage but the belts are to the Jeep, and said roll occures, you will be cut into pieces as your cage seperates from the rig, and you will lose.
