Do they check every vehicle going in or just the one pulling the permit? I have a friend that wants to go but he doesn't have safety.

They are supposed to check every vehicle, actually inspect them. They usually don't and just want to see the permit holders id and drivers of other vehicles id. I have been asked to see my reg and ins before, but only once. Just depends on the guy at the gate.

given that area is open to hunters with hunting license without a DLNR pass, they really only care to see the paperwork (hunting license or hiking/camping pass) and then you are good to go. Once you are through the gate, you can enjoy the trails without anyone bothering you for the most part. I see hunters up there sitting on the site of the main trail waiting for pigs as well as hikers all the time! :D

Last time I was up there, the guy at the gate wanted to see insurance, safety, and DL for everyone entering with a vehicle.

He said it was because a hunter without insurance crashed into someone.

hmmm....interesting. Last time I ran up there was about a month ago and they didn't ask for anything other than ID and the DLNR pass. I have seen people driving too fast up there though so can see that happening!
