: Worth the Time?

Would it be worth the time to swap in a complete stock 4:10 gearset for long distance trips to go wheeling?

I currently have 5.29's with my buick v6 and TH350, so at about 60mph i'm doing 3,000 rpm...

So i was considering my options...

Larger tires, too much $$$ right now
Swap the rear ends, rarely make LD trips so it wouldn't be that bad considering I get free fluids from work...
Borrow/rent/beg for a trailer and ride w/someone everytime

I figure it won't be too bad, or maybe I should just deal w/it and leave earllllllllllllllly and do 50-55 the whole way?

I hate to depend other people for the trailer thing,
I would do the 55 or 60 thing myself or get a trailer.

I'd love to get a trailer, and a tow rig....But I took out a personal loan w/the parentals, worked 3 summer jobs and did alot of favors to get my rig together...Now with college back in swing i can only work part time and another truck plus a trailer aren't in my future for a while.

Not only that but when I go wheeling its with 2 other guys all the time, if 1 of the 3 of us can't make it then we cancel the trip regardless of how many others are going, since we organize it amongst our friends.

IMO, The way that I see you making your decision is this...

How much gas would you save with the 4:10's in your truck for the longdistance wheeelin trips??

How long does it take you to swap out your rear third for the 4:10's?

How much is you time worth to you?

Answer all of these Q's and you've got your answer as to whether it is worth it or not.

Sell the 5:29s to offset the cost of installing dual cases or a 4:1 low (I prefer the flexbility of dual cases) then install the 4.1:1 axle gears.
