: new to JV....trail help

I have never been to JV, but i'm trying to plan a trip in the spring. I live about 3 hours away so it would be a day or two trip.

Are there any decent beginner trails around there? I have been out to gorman a number of times and there isn't really much out there anymore.

Current truck is still pretty mild, Toyota pickup, SAS, 35's, locked front and rear, soon to be caged.

Any trail recommendations?

Thanks

Cougar Buttes...

You are much better off going to Cougar Buttes it will be funner for you and cuts some time off your trip its about 20 miles closer.. Post up when you are planning your trip or if you wait till May 27-30 Cal 4 wheelers is doing the high desert round up that will be a fun time too...

Is anyone going with you? On your set up you could do claw hammer and after shocks. If your going by yourself Couger Buttes is nice.

thanks for the info guys.

I would love to check out tin benders, i am scheduled to be on the road in south america for a couple weeks, but if plans fall through than ill definitely be there.

Also not planning on heading out there alone, usually go with a small group.

Since your not going by yourself, you shouldn't have a problem with Aftershock.

Your rig could complete most of the trails, depending on your willingness to take some sheetmetal damage. A friend of mine has taken his cj5 on 35's through the following trails with a few scrapes and minor winching:

Wrecking ball
aftershock
chocolate thunder
turkey claw
claw hammer
sledge hammer
outer limits
sun bonnet

I guess this as good of time as any. We have been talking about this since KOH was over and we decided we will not be doing the Jambo in May this year. :( There are just too many things working against us for May to work. We are looking at an alternative date in the fall. As soon as details are worked out we will post up.

Several if not most of the Benders are still planning on being at the Hammers the second weekend of May (12-15) for some old fashioned fun wheeling. Come join the fun, our camp is always open.

Beginner trails... sort of a relative term. You did not mention crawler gears, so I hope you have a good clutch! :D

In order of difficulty, ascending, for your rig:

Fissure Mountain
Lower Big Johnson
Shaft Canyon (Soggy Dry Lake area)
Boulderdash
Clawhammer
Crowbar (Soggy Dry Lake area, winch required on at least 1 rig)
Aftershock

That should keep you busy for a couple of days...

Got any more details on this?
Thinking about tying in some JV wheeling with a tradeshow I have to attend in Vegas May 10-12. If there will be a group out in the desert I may just drive to the show with my rig in tow and then head over to the desert for a few days of trails.

FYI, plan on more like a 4-5 hour drive, my best ever time from Simi Valley with no traffic was 3:20. add 30-45 min from Ventura plus additional time for traffic, especially through Victorville.

As far as trails go, you can do most of them out there if you are ok with body damage.

So, what is the unofficial plan for the not-tinbenders jambo weekend?
