Had the truck pulled up to the garage sideways to do some bodywork/filling/sanding/etc...trying to get it to Freightliner by Friday to get painted.

Went in for a drink and came out to this view. I thought it was funny enough for a pic. A few I know will get a chuckle.

See how much crap you recognize. The twisted/broken driveline is visible (kind of). :flipoff2:

Thanks Jason (DieLucas!) for coming and helping out with the garage sale. Proceeds will be well used!

Anyway, I thought this was funny....

Hey Mister...do you have any more ice cream sandwiches?

BTW, I didn't notice your driveshaft was candy-striped...or am I seeing things again?

is it me, or do you have a single door for a 3-car garage? Looking good, to think that piece is finally gonna be one color! LOL

There's another door to the right of the one seen in the pic  ...next week Mike is gonna start diggin a pit over there, ala Jiffy Lube!:D

And Moses said, "The Lord commandth, though shalt not covet thy neighbor's garage."

a pit? yeah, that could be good, I'm an lift person myself, but that would involve quite a bit I guess, not to mention height clearence issues with our freaking rovers.

I was certainly kidding on the pit...but Mike does have 12+ feet of ceiling height...I'm certainly interested to see how he utilizes all that space :D

...but enough talking about Mike, why doesn't he chime in with his plans?!

Serious One

Why doesn't he chime in?

Because he's outside WORKING on his TRUCK trying to get it READY to be PAINTED! :flipoff2:

No pits. No lifts.

If I'm to that point, then I'll get a dedicated space and let the wife fill up the garage with VW's. Tell 'em about my 4wd Syncro Thing plans DieLucas!

Hehe.

Hehe.

I think those things would sell like hotcakes, man...ooh! Especially if the SMELLED like hotcakes!
more details here http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail42.html

Think VW Thing body on a Porsche C4 platform...or fabbing the whole deal using the VW Synchro (van) drivetrain. Either way is a total nightmare. The idea is cool until it comes time to build it :D
I still say save 10-15 grand and buy one of these:
http://www.cal-look.com/top20/top20.html

Occasionally one of them hits the market when the owner takes up a new project (number 2 on last year's list went for about $12K, ran 12.1's in the 1/4).

Oh yeah, kind of like trying to stuff a 283 into an 80 inch truck and run coil axles..... or.....lenghtening a 127 18 inches and stuffing a 350 into it.....or.....chewing gum and walking at the same time......or......:flipoff2:

The nightmare is half the fun man!!!

Hehe, you should know better. First VW's and now LR's??? Man, talk about a nightmare.

The only thing you have going for you so far is the fact that you don't have a project truck. Oh wait, you have one of those too? Oh baby you'd better hang on 'cause it's gonna be a wiillddd ride from here on out!!!

I want the first ride in it! Come over and we'll do that rear axle swap. Shouldn't take more than 20 minutes or so (10 min./truck).

you should paint the box on the back like a barn, cause thats what it looks like and its about the same size too!

I promise I won't take that maiden drive without you (I can't push the junk back home by myself :shaking: )

Regarding the nightmare of your Thing, I still feel the biggest issue is messing with a unibody. Chassis' are easy...modifying a unibody isn't

Stretch the Thing body onto the C4 platform, or chop the Westy-Synchro platform for the Thing body....or....ooo, ooo, ooo, build a tube chassis with the C4 drivetrain mounting points and bolt the Thing body onto that.

Or if you just want a sonic brick to drive around, just find that C4 and I'll rivet some aluminum roofing to the sides :D

If I lived in Las Vegas I would be building a VW Desert Runner. I have always wanted to do this.

Just another expensive hobby I guess.

Well.....

Anyone who is staring at the rear driveline while I'm going down the freeway instead of checking out the truck can think anything they want! :flipoff2:

The rear driveshaft was actually my idea. I thought that with such an imposing truck that I should introduce some degree of levity and humor into the thing. The last thing I want people to think is that I take myself too seriously. I thought the candy-cane driveshaft would be a cute touch, and somewhat whimsical.

It's just painted white with a stripe of red electrical tape spun around it. It would be really easy to pull it of D if you got the urge once you saw it (just don't let me know you did it or I'd have to kill you). :flipoff2:

Taking the truck to get it painted on Monday. Got the remainder of the bodywork done today, need to pull the rear doors off and paint the inside tomorrow, then the front doors hopefully before Sat. I'm painting the inside door jams and inner doorframes satin black, then white on the outside. I just can't get used to haveing an entirely black interior and having the doortops glaring white. I'm getting pretty picky I 'supose.

Sat. my friend DieLucas! is coming over to help me pull off the sliders and the ARB bumper in the morning. Hehe.

Should be a fun week/end.

Ok, you want it you get it. Ruths Chris sucks ass! Here in seattle, we have the #4 steakhouse in the country! I have had a nice filet at both Smith and Wonlenskys and Delmonicos in the lobby of the four seasons and I must say that both service and meat preparation were far superior at the later. Ask mike, do I look like I eat steak?

Dont worry "D" i will keep look out while you peel that damn candy cane stripe off. Actually Mike that strip does not look like it flows evenly around the shaft. Why not just put the tape straight along the length of the shaft, so you will know that when it starts to candy cane, the shafts gona Blow Heheheehe

it's Eliot Carver, 'Tomorrow Never Dies'

Don't!
The Einstein quote identifies the insanity that plagues genious...the Bond quote emphasizes the insanity in all of us, the lengths to at which we will go to pursue genius success, and the overboding fear of repeated failure (thus remaining insane).

The difference...Einstein was a genius battling insanity...whereas we are all insane, striving for that single genius success (I think Mike and I hit it when we choose to assymetrically load certain 2-piece fasteners on the ice-cream truck :D).

Frankly, my wife believes I'm a moron. That is actually applied idiocy.

DieLucas!

The distance between genious and insanity is success.
Pretty sure that's how it goes.

(BTW, your sig is buggin' me...if you keep it, add a "c" and remove an "m")
