What's wrong with the rear Chevy D60's?

Just curious why the price would be THAT much lower.

dana 60 rears are cake to find.. in other words, the supply is great.. and there's just not much to a rear axle.. with the axle you get gears (which may not have the ratio you want), carrier (which you'll want to replace w/ a real locker or spool), 2 shafts (which you'll want to swap to 35 spline anyway), drum brakes that we all trash in favor of disks.. hell, now we're buying dana 60 rears in order to use the housing.. doh!

But on a serious note, most every rear axle costs real damn cheap compared to front... don't know why.

Just fawkin wit ya man.

Rears are cheap because they can be found in 2wd trucks and vans as well.

D60's were only in the 1-ton 4wd trucks.

Supply and demand.

The supply of rear D60s rotting away at PnPs is huge, but try finding a D60 front. The supply is very low, compared to the demand. So those that have them, jack up the price.
But vigilence does pay off every once in a while at the PnPs.
I have found the coveted $100 D60 front once:D
Also a 7.3L ford diesel with ATS turbo for only $250:flipoff2:
I make the PnP circuit at least once a week.
