BLM Desert Advisory Council to Meet in Victorville

The next meeting of the Bureau of Land Management’s California Desert Advisory Council (DAC) will be held March 26, 2011 in Victorville, Calif. The council will meet in formal session on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 12603 Mariposa Road, Victorville, CA 92395. There will be no field trip on Friday, March 25. On that date, the council will hold an internal business meeting on administrative matters.

Agenda topics for the formal session on Saturday will include updates by council members and reports from the BLM District Manager and five field office managers. In addition, the agenda may include updates on:

1) California Independent System Operator

2) 29 Palms Marine Corps Air-to-Ground Combat Center proposed expansion

3) abandoned mine lands

4) special recreation permits

5) renewable energy

Final agenda items will be posted on the BLM California state website at: http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/info/rac/dac.html.

All formal DAC meetings are open to the public. The public will be invited to comment at the beginning of the meeting Saturday morning, during the presentations at the discretion of the DAC chair, and at the end of the meeting. While the meeting is tentatively scheduled to conclude at 5 p.m., it could wrap up earlier should the council conclude its presentations and discussions.

Written comments may be filed in advance of the meeting and should be addressed to the Desert Advisory Council, c/o Bureau of Land Management, External Affairs, 22835 Calle San Juan de Los Lagos, Moreno Valley, CA 92553. Written comments also are accepted at the time of the meeting and, if copies are provided to the recorder, will be incorporated into the minutes.

Ive been to these meetings. If you enjoy recreating on public lands you will not be bored, and in fact will learn a bit about how all this "land-use" stuff works.

Besides the permit stuff, I'm going to to hear someone from the USMC base make an actual presentation about the JV takeover. (Their april public meetings will only be open house style).

If your going to make comments on any of the topics, also bring and give a written copy right to the recorder so they can be put right into the official minutes.
