I know you all love newbies, so I promise I won’t ask you “what type of lift should I get”, but just for your info I am only new to modifying toys. I have a 69 scout that I have modified, and am now looking to modify my old 83 Toyota for my wife (I got in trouble the last time I went to Moab without her).
My problem is the motor. Its dead… Finding another 22r would be the easiest, but as you know carburetion can be a problem, and I don’t know how we the stock carbs do on steep angles? So that leads me to a 22re. But I have searched, and have found no info on installing a 22re (85-latter truck or 81-84 Celica) in an 83? My biggest question is what to do with the gas tank. Will an 85-newer tank fit in an 83? Or can the old tank be made to work with the EFI? I know I could go with some other motor, but I want to keep it as simple and as cost effective as possible.
Thanks for any info you can give

Yep, he did say "Newdie" .......... Must work as a computer nerd, he can't type .....
To answer your question, yes, you can swap a 22re in a older toy, and yes you need an efi tank, and yes it will fit. But i'd go 4.3 if I was going to go from carb to EFI, not much morte effort involed and way better tourqe

Put on some clothes and use the Search button....
cheapest would be to buy an EFI donor vehicle or go GM drive line.....
You can keep the old carb tank and get an electric in-line pump. I think there's a Ford pump that'll work.

Whooooopps… Newdie… Newbie… That’s funny… Actually if I was a computer nerd I would know how to spell…
4.3 Huh… I do have access to a 4.3 vortec with 20k on it… Will the transmission handle the torque? I will probably need a new radiator? Advanced adapter bell housing and motor mounts. $$$$
A 22re would probebly cost much less...
So the original tank will work with an externall high pressure pump... Thats good
Thanks for the input.

no way a 4.3 would be easier ;)
Not to say it won't be better! And I wouldn't put anything bigger than a 22r in front of a toy tranny..

tranny will hate u.. it won't last.. especially those G something models.. yes u need a bigger radiator.. motor mounts.. and run a chevy tranny and adapter to toy case.. this has been covered numerous times...

There was also a write up on here awhile back on ajusting the float on a carb and changing the vacum lines to make it run a steeper angles i think this is the linkhttp://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=54547&highlight=carb
a 4.3 would be nice but there are plenty capable rigs out there running 22r and re it really depends on what you want to use it for. If i had a 4.3 on hand i would probaly put it in but thats just me anyways good luck
