: Earthquake and the Yen
4D55 Performance Inc 03-13-2011, 08:58 PM Initially I didn't think too much about it, but over the past day or two as I see the death toll climb to over 10,000, and nuclear reactors melting down left and right. The Japanese Yen is going to take a huge hit. While it is unfortunate that this tragedy has taken place, life goes on. And while I can't go over there and help with aid, I can pump money into their market buy purchasing OEM parts that are not available here in the states for both my pickup and Montero. My guess is the Yen could take a really big hit.
Currently the US dollar is worth 82 Yen but I am guessing the US dollar could be worth 120 Yen like it was back in 2007.
trkklr77 03-13-2011, 09:10 PM please explain to me how a natural disaster some how makes money hold less value?
and further more how you trying to take advantage of the "hit" is some how going to help them seeing as how you are now giving them less for the same product.....

It's simple, when an country is forced to import more, and export less, that countries money market will weaken, because banks are less willing to lend money. Prior to the earthquake, Japan's economy was already in fragile condition and their government dumped 183 billion in to their market just to encourage the banks to lend money. They were doing everything they could to avoid a recession, but now it seems eminent.
You asked an interesting question, "how you trying to take advantage of the "hit" is some how going to help them seeing as how you are now giving them less for the same product?" Well, the secret to over coming a recession is keeping the work force employed and by purchasing product, the production lines and warehouses remain open.
Last I checked the Tokyo stock exchange was down 6% today alone. That's a huge drop.

I cant see how you can mention "death toll climb to over 10,000" and "allow me to get more for my money" in the same breath....Real classy Spence:shaking:
That's awesome that your looking to personally benefit form the tragedy going down in Japan right now, but don't try to pass it off to us as if your trying to help them out. If you really wanted to help, There are plenty of organizations that you can send money to that will help them out a hell of a lot more than buying a few OEM parts for your Max and Montero...Give me a break.:shaking: WTF???

I am not trying to pass it off, I have had tragedy in my life as well, I lost a child 2 weeks ago, but life goes on, and I don't have the time nor energy to point fingers. While it is difficult mentally and emotion day to day, I still have a wife and 2 other children to take care of. In my opinion the best thing for me has been, staying busy. It helps keep my mind off things as well as provide income for my family. I thank everyone who has provided me with support over the past few weeks, including several members of this board. As far as donating money, I agree with you. That's why I serve as a big brother to many youth and gang members in my community donating 20 hours a week of my time and then donate an additional 10K every year to an organization that will undeniably provide more aid than any other private organization to Japan. Unlike most people who only donate when disaster strikes, I donate monthly no matter what. And my wife and I have discussed donating to an addition organization recently who has really helped us through our loss. And no, I am not made of money, just today I took my three year old shopping for clothes today at the thrift store where he bought 5 pairs of used pants because I do donate what I consider to be a large portion of my income. I am confident my donations will be well spent as it was with the Haiti and Sumatra quakes. I think you just misunderstand who I am but that does not matter to me, I am confident in who I am and my efforts to help others within my community and those around the world.

It's very evident you don't know who I am and it's okay, Maybe we could meet up sometime and go wheeling, I am certain your opinion of me would change. It's kinda hard to get a read on someone through the internet. Until then, I won't hold it against you or anyone else. I am sorry if I offended you but every little bit does help. They are going to need all the help they can get even if it's a few dollars here and there.

They are "Japanese" not "Japs".

Yes, I'm sure your a saint and a pillar of the local, national and global comunity, but in my opinion, coming on here and posting about how you want to use the tragedy in Japan to your advantage shows a lack of class, given the current situation. Given your own recent tragedy I would think you would understand this. Aparently not.
Life goes on, yes...But let the dust settle a bit before you post up letting us know how you plan to use the situation to your advantage..People dont want to hear that shit right now. The body count is climbing, nuclear reactors are poised to blow at any given moment, and your take on the situation is that you can buy cheap parts to help them out?? GTFOH!
