Went out with my buddy a couple of weeks ago and got it up to a little over 130 or so but it starts to have a shimmy to it. Is this normal for a 929?

i've been to 130 on a suzuki 550E.......in the draft of a ninja:D .
it would do 115 or so by itself. the frontend would start to get light at those speeds.

145 on little bros FZR 1000 still had a gear to go too. The FZ 600 I had 11 years ago wouldnt go faster than 127 MPH used to do that every night on the way home from school untill I passed a CHP and a tow truck that were on the shoulder (hell no I didnt stop or slow down :D) , needless to say I didnt ride the bike to school for a couple of weeks :flipoff2:

'99 zx 11 @ 188 mph. supposed to go faster but I couldn't get it to and I'm light.

2nd fastest 2k1 929 rr @ 163 mph(not tapped out either), and no this one was not loose at all.

3rd 2k R6 @ 147 mph in a bit of a head wind. it was beat too. but that was tapped.

Years ago I put my '87 FZR1000 up at around 155mph going east bound over the San Mateo bridge for a mile or so right before I noticed jonny law in the distance with his tworlies a flash'n. Appearently he was pulling up from behind to warn me about speeding when all of a sudden I bolted from his sight. He said it took him 6 miles to catch me across the bridge. All I got was a warning since I was on my way to Lagun Seca for a race but honestly, I think he was kinda shook up from the whole ordeal. Bike cops are sometimes cool about shit like that too though, just be very polite...:D

how in the fawk do you get 188 doing 188? next time try rounding up to 190 or down 185 but if you know for a fact you're going 188, then you're starring at the speedo way to long... I say, boy; keep your eyes on the road when going that fast or we'll be pick'n up pieces of the neckster from here to Chico which ain't so silly....

Excuse me while I go change into my skirt cause now I feel like a little school girl! Maybe something is wrong with the 929 cause it is a 2001, but feels loose at 130. When my buddy gets the 998 back I may hop on that and see what it can do.

the only thing sloppy about the 929 for me was head shake when coming down from high speed wheelies before it had a steering dampener....no other bike I've ridden has done it that bad....the high speed was after the dampener so.........

I think the prob w/ your 929 is that...or tire balancing

I did 155 mph "ONCE" on my RF 600 R across Louisiana! Nothing but a truck every mile or so and this silly white boy on his crotch rocket. I had 60 miles of fairly straight road to get my speed up and I held on the stop for almost 10 minutes. Funny thing was this Dude in a Mercedes 2 seater thought he could keep up. "NOT"
Oh one other thing! I had a handheld "CB" radio on my belt and wired into my helmet. Here I am concentrating on the Highway and I feel something hit me on the back of my leg. I glance down just in time to see my 40 channel handheld radio hit the pavement at "WFO" Damn thing disenegrated all over the highway. I stopped and eased back up the shoulder to see if I could find any of it. A "AA" battery in the middle of the road turned out to be my starting point. I found the main pieces. Took it to the local Factory repair office when I got home and told them my story. They put it back together for me for the price of the parts. I still have it and it works well. Only it's gotta hefty case of road rash on the case pieces I could find.

I did 130 on a ZX-7

I had never gone that fast on two wheels before it was strange.

I got on the throttle right out of the corner into a 2 mile straight away. I let off when the cross wind pished me from the dotted line in the road to about three feet from the outside edge.
I was a light weight at the time :D

I figured I would have been half way through tthe straight away but I was just a little over 1/4 of the way through the 2 mile straight.

that bike went fast real quick.

Years back, my brother worked up in Auburn as an EMT. Sprained his back lifting a 400 pound patient into the ambulance. So he had to have his "little brother" drive his Suzuki 850 shaft drive home.

I was used to riding a Honda 350, so getting up to speed on the freeway was a matter of "full throttle, shift, full throttle shift.... "

Not sure of the top speed of his Suzuki... but started of with the full throttle, shift, full throttle, shift... that section of I-80 is downhill with curves.

Took a few moment to wonder why the trucks "were at a dead stop" as I was coming up on them too quickly. Mind didn't even realize I had max'd out in the top of sixth gear. Shaft drive, with a small cafe fairing... pretty quite compared to the Honda.

Not sure of the top speed of that Suzuki, but with the downhill... fastest ride I had ever gone on! (estimate 140-150?) Especially on that road, as things were coming up was too fast. The trucks that seemed like they were "stopped" were in reality doing 50-60 on the downhill stretch. Once I gained my bearings, I was aware of a CHP with lights on coming up through the trucks... did the common sense thing of merging in front of a trucker (who knew I was hiding at that point), and letting the CHP car fly past... yep, he spotted me, but never got pulled over. Had I been pulled over I would have been shaking too much to stand up! :)

Rest of that 30 mile drive was uneventful. Buddies, driving my brother, arrived back in Sacramento about 30 minutes later... wondering how I got home so quickly. :)

Doing 150 (250 kph) on the autobahn... in a sedan, doesn't compare to that on two wheels. Just hope my KIDS never do anything like that!

Indicated 140 on my old FZR600 but I've been in indicated 150 in a 911 Porsche. I think both speedos were optomistic!

The car felt a little more stable, bike supplied more adrenilin:D

Did 145 on a GS1100... I'm a fat ass and that was scarry. I've also done 145 in my old Mustang GT...factory rear skirt.... that was also scarry. Recently did a hair over 60 on pavement on one of my bro's Prarie 650 quads.... odd sensation. New bike only does about 110 .... it's a cruiser pig but man is it comfortable.

165 on 2000 R6. It was a supersport race bike. I bought it and put street plastic on it. That was a blast to ride. I dyno'd with 106 @ the rear wheel. Sold the bike, while I could still walk with my on legs.

98 YZF600R----Top speed - around 155 to 160, Ive hit 150 a few times. Anything over 130 makes me very nervous. But its fun as hell. It rides amazingly smooth at around 120 though. :D

CR500 with the smallest rear sprocket and biggest front will do about 110 with knobbies on the street........ stock gears will do 80

163 on my 01' R1 (stock)
143 on my 93' 600 F2 (pipe and jet kit)
80-85 on my 01' YZ 426 across Baja on dirt (geared to the tilt 15/45)
Wheelie at 105-110 on my R1. I know allot of guys that can do better, but it is still fun!

Scariest was as toss up between the 163 and the Baja run.

Anything above ~150 gets my adrenoline going.

Once you ride at any speed below 130 (for me) for a period of time it just seems slow.

145 mph on auto bahn 3 coming back frm the gp race on a built 1200 sportster ! i was vibrating so bad my arms went numb !and i had to peel my hands off the bar. and as far as shaking at high speeds check the tire pressure as well as tire condition ..is it uniform (equal wear)? what speed is the tire rated for? and last check the steering damper. i work on bikes for a living.just a thought.

So after I got some comments on the dampener I checked it out and it seemed a bit fubared for some dumb reason so he is replacing it and we are going riding again next weekend. Hoping for a smoother ride after 130!

I did 115 on my old LT500 across ELMirrage dry lake bed yr's ago when I lived out west. I just put new sprocket's on and wanted to see what the top speed was. The scary part was when I stopped all four tires went flat. They came off the beed's:eek: I would hate to know what would of happened if something went wrong

Hmm let's see 80mph on dirt roads, 96cr500, stock gears checked with pacemaker computer. Didn't sound good, too many rpm's for that big bike!
160 mph on the speedo for about 20 miles stretches at a time, somewhere in montana on my 85fj1100, back when I didn't have quite as much sense:eek:

Did 140 on my FZR600 few years back, not quite tapped. Although I did tap it out in 6th gear once, but I had broken my speedo cable learning wheelies, so not sure if it can go past 140.

The fastest I could ever get my 87 CBR600 up to was 135.
My 2k Superhawk would do 155. I tried to get them both higher a bunch of times but never could. They were both very stable at top speed :D

about 110 on an '02 XR650L on gravel. That was scary.
about 160 on a built FZR600 without body work.
about 250 on a none timed run on a top fuel bike. It was detuned so that I could go on it. I was real scared that I would just fly off the back. It was all I could do to hold on.
