I wanna regear my axles on my '90 F150. I wanna go as low as possible, without having too thin of a ring gear. Do 4.56 hold up?

Lower gears typically have a thicker ring gear. The pinion on the other hand gets smaller.

Shouldn't have to worry about 4.56's. They'll be fine.
