Put an SM420 4 speed in it if you plan on wheeling it. It is an easy swap for a 3sp with an F motor. Mo bedda wheeling too.

While the 3sp T'case will bolt to the yota 4sp, the 3sp input gear won't fit on the 4sp tail shaft. This means that the 4sp swap is about as expensive as the 420 and maybe even more expensive.

Compare:
4sp bellhousing, 4sp, 4sp transfer case or the 3sp transfer case adaptor kit ($200). 4sp drive shafts.

sm420 ($50-100), adaptor plate for sm420-3sp transfer case ($100-200), a few odds and ends ($50-100)

Having done the 4 spd in a '73 FJ55, I'd gowitth the sm420.

if you are set on the toyota 4spd, Gear is easy to find but can be pricey, bearing is datsun b210 axle bearing, bellhousing is cheap, 3spd clutch can be reused. Driveshafts need to be shortened in rear, lengthend front by couple inches. I did it in an afternoon which included swaping to later clutch stuff, and putting in new driveshafts... I dont and wont drive the truck offroad so the smooth shifting toyota 4spd was a no brainer, but if it went offroad at all, I would go sm420...

I say go with a GM 4 speed too. I have a SM465 for sale with an advanced adapter that I am willing to let go for $500. I sent you a PM

thanx guys i needed that.i gueess cheaper is not always better.ill just keep my 3 spd till the money is there for the right swap.i think it would be cheaper and easierwith the common 350/420 or 465/3 spd case settup.thats my plan.thanx for talking some sense into me guys i got sidetracked.

What about compatibility with the 465 or 420 to a stock 4spd in a 77? Cheesey easy or like difficult?

Easy, but more money. About as much more money that you could buy a 3sp T'case.

You use either the Advanced Adaptors kit or the Classic cruisers kit for the sm465.

Nice thing about the AA 465 adapter is that if you take
some time when setting everything up, you can get away
without driveline mods. At least it was that way for me.
