I'm looking at setting up a ram assist system on my junk and was wondering if anyone knew how the nissan p/s steering box is ported? Its old, early 80's. I can't afford the rock ram setup so if I can figure out how to port the nissan box, I'll build off that.

I had discussed having my Nissan box plumbed for hyd assist by the fine folks at Redneck ram, and they said they would be able to do it.

I ended up worrying about the strength of it versus my 40" mog tires, so I went up to a 1 ton box.

So, I now have a spare box off a '95 V6 pickup I can sell you if you want to play.

Is it ported? :D

this thing kinda ended up on my junk.

its a 80 toy w/FSJ 44's both ends. I tried a f150 box but, didn't want to move the radiator to mount it.

I have a Nissan FSM for my 87, I *think* there is a flow diagram in there for the ps box, might be a start... I can dig it up and check if you like.

Open it up and see what's inside. You just need to hit (hydraulicly) each side of the piston inside--it is a power box, right? Can't port a manual (duh).

If you can figure out how to port it, more power to ya. If you're nervous about opening it up, send it to me and I'll port it (won't be free, but might be cheaper than buying a second box) if I can, or tell ya I can't. Or send it to West Texas Offroad too... if they already said they can port it, they've probably got an idea of where they're going to, already.
