i have a 93, 3.0, 167000 mi. and am hearing a noise like a rod:confused: its only when it shifts it to lower gears when i punch the gas,or if i rev up the RPM's. if it is a rod is there a way to check without taking the moter out and if it is a rod how long at this point till it gose? what are my options at this point??

A rod knock is not likely to be audible intermittently. I foou can hear the noise at idle pull 1 wire at a time until the noise ceases. This will be the culprit cylinder. A main bearing will fit the description you've described, but so will other internals.

Could it be the type of knock you get from using bad gas, or gas that is too low in octane?
Maybe try using some good high octane gas and see what happens.

I had a rod knock after I blew a headgasket. Mine only made noise at low RPMs. It was loudest when you left off the gas. I decided to drive it until it blew up. It just went away. No oil pressure at idle though so its still fukked.
