I am installing my disk brakes on the rear of my 4 Runner. I bought several feet of brake line to cut custom lengths. I can not seem to make a double flare for anything. I have the tool kit to make Double Flaring, but it doesn't work? My question is - do you think that a single flare would seal well enough? I can make them really well!

you really need the double flare for brakes.

DOUBLE ALL THE WAY!!! when doing the double and after it is cut to length.. File the tube down to where there are no imperfections in the tube.. make it look like the tube wasperfect with no ridges.. Clean out the inside real well also leaving no materail inside.. It should look like a piece of factory tube at the end.. then procede with your flare.. I have done alot of them and when there are tiny splits or imperfections with the piece you start with it makes it much harded to make a good double flare.. Doubles are much stronger and Seal WAY better

As said....yes you want double. I agree with Pat. I have found that
prep of the tube makes all the difference in the world as to how
well a double flare comes out.

The trick to making double flares is 1st prepare the tube like Pat stated and 2nd you need the right amount of tube sticking out of the flairing clamp. Rule of thumb is the amount sticking out of the clamp should be the same as the diameter of the tube.
Too much and your tubing will bend off to the side, too little and you'll never get it to curl under.

Practice on some scrap and once you get the first good one done you'll go "Damn! That was pretty easy!".:D
