How do you get the knuckles apart. I'm not sure of the different names of them but I'll just call them the inner and outer knuckles.

We have it all torn apart and everything we just can't get the knuckles separated. We have the ball joint separated and it isn't doing anything to the top. We haven't tried the bottom yet though. But the top has a nut thing that has holes in it. It would need a special socket that is like what is used to get spindle off except smaller.

The axle is off a jeep j-10 and I think it has chevy outers.

Sorry I didn't have time to search but we are in a hurry if you could reply quickly that would be excellent.

A BFH is all you need. The insert in the top can stay.

So all I need to do is hit the top stud as hard as I can. Correct. Or hit the flat top knuckle part.

I hit both sides of the inner knuckle. I back one side up with a 7 lb sledge and smack the other side with a 5 pounder You hit each side right outside the ball joint, and it pos right off. The J10 outers should be identical to chevy outers from the factory.

Thanks guys. I wasn't expecting such a turn out. I thought there would be a lot of idiots saying use the search function. I appreciated it.

The outers are 8 lug though. That is why they had to be changed.
