: Changing my SOA spring set up???
Okay, have 4" springs SOA, I want more clearance for serious flex. These 4" springs don't give me the articulation I want at this time. I have 6 complete YJ springs and I want to build a sick twisting spring. What is the best combination that some people are using? I was thinking of even taking the Main leaf from my 4" SkyCrapper leaf pack and replacing it with the main leaf of my YJ stockers. I would like to still get about 2" out of the set up, that's about it. I have 4-5 pack rears and 2-4 pack fronts to utilize for this . I plan on going down from the 38's to 36's on the d60 rear and 44 front.
Thanks,
:flipoff2: Newbe :flipoff2:
MNBen 11-24-2002, 06:49 PM Search under waggy springs, and 44044. They are apparently the shizznit. I'm running 2" bds springs SOA, and they do ok, but I plan on changing them out for the 7 leaf waggy springs. I'd rather trim more to run 38s than run a 4" spring soa, but bigdude and others seem to love their massey lift.

jeepbrew 11-24-2002, 07:26 PM Yup, waggys are a good way to go. I am gonna run 38s with my waggys and 2" BL... :flipoff2:
coiledcj7 11-24-2002, 07:51 PM screw leaf springs! you want serious flex?

I ended up putting Dodge grand caravan springs on the rear of my jeep...don't remember the dimensions off hand but they were 2.5" wide and ALOT longer than stock springs:D
Back of the springs are just under the rear bumper

Fronts I'm running a modified cherokee spring pack and it is pretty flexy

This is driving me nuts...my jeep is almost finished...except I'm in Alaska and it is in NY and now I can't go home for christmas to finish it:(
WheelingPiazza 11-25-2002, 08:45 AM If you want to use those wrangler springs, Do a search
Heres the basic.
You want 8 springs,
4 5 leaf packs.
4 4 leaf packs
Take the 4 leaf pack and your going to use the main spring and the secondary spring.
Take the main spring from the four leaf pack and cut the eyes off them. Insert them under the main leaf on the 5 leaf pack, Then take the secondary leaf and put it on top of the main leaf on the 5 pack.
I dont have any really good flex shots of my jeep because I am normally driving. But they twist up really nicely..

four_by_nut 11-26-2002, 11:56 AM I second this setup. I have the same:
5 leaf packs front and rear (from a YJ). Took another set of spring and cut the eyes off and inserted it as #2 in the pack (under the main). Then took a set of CJ7 stock springs and put one in at about position 3. I get about 1.5" of lift and some GREAT flex. Springs go WAY negative arch. I am SOA and 38's. Did a LOT of fender trimming to clear the tires.
A 4" spring is never going to flex as good as a stock pack that is slightly modified. The spring rates are just too high. Your better off staying with many leaves at a low spring rate and trimming your fenders if you want flex. I would try to stay away from using springs from your 4" pack. Just too stiff.
Now..................start thinking about spring wrap control......

44044s are NOT 4" lift springs (sit about equal to a 2" YJ lift spring- yes I've checked). I run them because they work very well, I don't give a shit if they put me up 1" taller than I need to be.
*edit* I don't have any fenders and I'm full width so it looks pretty tall
four_by_nut 11-26-2002, 12:51 PM I wasn't arguing with YOU. I was commenting on the original post where he said he had 4" springs SOA and they didn't flex well.
Yes, the springs you specified are also EXCELLENT for flex. I've seen a LOT of guys running that setup with excellent results. I was just commenting on what I run and have found to work for me.
four_by_nut 11-26-2002, 01:34 PM Bigdude..........don't listen to me! I'm still a newbie. Just realized you were replying to someone else.
Please forgive...........I bow before your greatness! :D
Charly 11-26-2002, 02:24 PM I've noticed that too. I run 44044s on my rear right now (they are almost new) and to be honest they are about the same size as some stock waggy's I have in front. They definitely aren't 2.5". Maybe 1"
I was considering geting some of the JCW 7 leaf packs for the front. It would be front tall if I got the 44044s.
Old Army 11-26-2002, 03:09 PM I fooled around with a combination of CJ and Skyjacker. But after parking on an RTI ramp for a few hours I had developed serious one sided spring sag. I now run a tired set of 2.5" skyjackers. Its a little taller than before but rides much better. It may not flex as well as waggy springs but it is close enough. Besides thats what lockers are for.

NE-RokToy 11-26-2002, 03:27 PM If you are going to making a custom pack including some leafs from your lifted pack I would stick with the main leaf from the lift springs. If you try to get arched packs with stock mains you will end up with short springs and crappy shackle angle. Also the main leaf is not likely the limiting factor in the pack.

any leaf setup that flexes worth a crap will need a anti-wrap bar......well if you have a real motor anyway :flipoff2:
