What's the best way to get the most travel with an IFS, I know
SAS but this is for a project Montero, I've seen extended arms and brackets that move the hub down but what is the right way ?
I've also heard of spacers in the upper arms to lower it down but
doesn't seem that safe.
Anyone running longer a-arms ? Pics would be great, Thanks

Yeah, it doesnt really much matter what type of vehicle, theres no comparison between a straight axle and IFS, especially if travel is what youre after. Money wise, its just not worth it. And BTW, about 75% of the IFS lifts out there will only raise the truck up height wise, with no increase in travel. Doesnt seem worth the $ does it? Hate to add to the bad news, but thats the long and short of it.

did you say you're building a Montero? I used to have one and I don't think anybody makes a lift for the front end, although a company out here in California makes a set of 2 inch rear springs that are supposedly pretty good. A live axle montero would be pretty sweet, I thought about swapping mine but those things don't have a lot of come-over angle and good luck finding crawler gears among other things. Swap it and send me pictures (I might be the only one on this board interested in a built Montero)

anyone have the pics of that pretty sweet SASed brown montero. I swear they were posted here, had like 36" TSLs on it. But then again, maybe the memory isn't what it used to be...

Ok if you're looking for increased wheel travel for going fast i.e; prerunning/desert race, you're in the wrong place but if you want to get into rockcrawling and happen to have a Montero I can help. My buddy wheels the piss out of his '87 4Runner, granted it's a Toyota so he has a good aftermarket at his disposal but he hasn't touched it as the frame is too rusted to SAS so he's just using it to wheel while he save money for a buggy. So far he's cranked the torsion bars, put shackles out back, welded the front diff, added nerfs and bumpers, and cut the fenders for 33x13.50 Swamper LTBs. He wheels it every weekend and has a blast. It may not be setup for any hardcore stuff but it walked Upper Woodpecker yesterday taking all the nasty lines except the Firehole. Everything he's done you can do to your truck and get out and wheel some rocks and have fun. As you go save your pennies for a rear locker, low gears, SAS ect. and before you know it you'll have the coolest Montero in the country. Oh Yeah if you just want to fit big tires to look cool you're in the wrong place too. Welcome newb:flipoff2:
