Wondering if you can use (2) T-Bird Turbo coupe turbos on a Mustang 5.0L engine? I realize I would have to heavely modify the exhaust and forget about the smog problems, but will it work? and is it worth it? It looks like I could do it for around $200. Seems like it might be fun, but...? Any info appreciated.

That would be bad ass :D
Iv got a 5.0 in a 68 Mustang that Ive been thinking runnin turbos on.I think 2 Turbo Coupe units would work good.
If ya end up doin this, keep us posted :D
I assume that you know you'll need to address fuel/ignition requirements and lots of small stuff ?

An MSD boost retard and an enrichment setup like on a supercharged 5.0 should take care of that stuff.
I think the hardest part would be fabbing up the headers.

Thanks for the input. This idea is in the very early stage, and may need more beer. Some MSD parts for a SC 5.0 might work well. I am also wondering if the T-bird turbos will provide enough boost/air flow for the 5.0L.

$200 to add twin turbos?
This can be done but no way for $200, if you get good prices on the turbos, try the 2.3turbo mustangs as well for a good source, then it could be done for around a $1000.
As far as custom headers just switch some shortys around left to right.:p

You can also get them (T3 turbos) from Merkur Xr4ti's.

A friend of mine ran a T3 hybrid turbo from a Merkur on a '90 Mustang. With 9 pounds of boost, the car would walk all over similier supercharged Mustangs. As long as the boost isnt astronimically high, your idea would make awesome power and would be extremely cool.
The only down side to it is that it would suck in deep water or mud. The exhaust housings may crack when subjected to such thermal shock.

All of the turbos I've seen in the yards are on the passenger side of the motor. How do you turn one around to work on the drivers side? How close do they need to be to the head? Would the end of a shorty header be to far away?

You can have the turbo located almost any in the engine compartment with little problem. I would recommend that you run both sides of the engine exhaust into the turbo for stronger boost and less turbo lag.
