Welcome to FOF 2011. In past years we posted workday dates one by one as they came near but since we got input that you all like to be able to plan, this year we're posting all the dates up front. This is not to say they will not change. In fact due to weather and the water release some most likely will. In addition, the beginning of the year will be especially hard because of the snow pack this year. We're going to shoot for the trail opening run to be on Memorial weekend but...
So, first list is our schedule of workday events. Second is a list of tasks that will be ongoing throughout the year. And finally, be sure to put Sierra Trek on your calendar. FOF will be back leading the Saturday River Run and space is limited. The event continues to evolve with new runs, better food and more in camp activities. There are more SUV run opportunities and even an ATV run has been added. Just like last year base camp is in Meadow Lake. See you August 11-14.
May 28-30 Memorial Day trail opening run.
June 25 Bottle Hill area work. New trail section grooming. Continued old trail section blockade and remediation efforts.
July 16 Committee trail grooming. Continued old trail blockade and remediation efforts.
August 6 Block mudhole at entrance to Winch Hill 5.
September 17 End of year workday (unspecified) BBQ and trail run.
Remember, these dates may change due to conditions and we may add a day in at the end of August too. Snacks and drinks will be provided at all workdays and in addition to the big BBQ Sep 17th we'll have at least one other BBQ day.
Other stuff going on this year:
Four Dice 4WDC will be taking the lead in several projects. They'll be extending their log ramp once again, and doing a bunch of work at Winch Hill 3 to include felling a bunch of dead trees for safer camping around the hill and doing repair work to the by-pass so it isn't actually harder than the squeeze itself.:D
I haven't talked to Webilt this year but last year they were talking of looking at a possible gabion installation at the second off camber on Sunrise.
Repair signage along the trail and add some signage having to do with trail sanitation. Design and install a "snow depth guage" for next years winter wheeling season when restrictions will be in place assumming Travel Management goes into effect. Signage paid for by a grant from NAXJA.
Eagle Lakes Road combined use campaign.
FOF led TNF Jeep build.
Ham radio resource information collection.
Trail sanitation campaign.
We're looking forward to another productive year working together to keep the Fordyce trail healthy and open and most importantly to eliminate any reasons for anyone to think about restrictions or closures!!
