The steering on my 79 Bronco is sloppy and I was thinking about getting a Borgeson Steering shaft, are they worth the $200? Is there cheaper alternative or better yet, a way to modify the factory steering shafts to get rid of slop? I have 6" suspension lift with 36" Swampers and 2 steering stabilizers. The truck turns very easily, it just has a lot of slop when going down the road. Thanks for any ideas

With the motor off, wiggle the steering wheel and have a buddy watch the ALL of the steering componets, and find out where the slop is

Three words....Trac Bar Bushings.
I can almost guarantee that's your problem.
I had a 6" lift w/36's and these bushings wore out about every 2 months depending on how much driving/wheeling you do.
(If you don't know where tthey are (you should) there's one on the pass. side of the axle and one on the driver's side of the frame by the steering box)
Like welndmn said have a buddy wiggle your steering with the tires on the ground and the motor off. You8 should see some abnormal movement,
oh yeah, you shouldn't need 2 steering stabilizers, one stock one should be fine if your ball joints, tie rod ends and trac bar bushings are all in good shape.

your steering 'IS' sloppy, or 'FEELS' sloppy??
If you don't have much/any caster your steering will 'FEEL' sloppy, even if all your junk is good.

To answer your question,, Yes the Borgenson steering shaft is worth the money.
Building new steering links, and putting them on top of the knuckle is also worth it. Or if ya drop real cash.. Have the taper hole in the knuckle welded up, re drilled and tapered from the other side, and build new links using 1 ton TRE's
