want to wire up a dump trailer battery to my f250 and not sure on the right way to do it. need to be able to charge up the battery when in use and when the trailer is attached to the truck. the truck is already equiped with power brakes for the trailer. any help or direction to find the answer would be greatly apreciated.

well this is for my brother and i would proably agree with you. he has a 17ft dumper and is usually dumping roffing material so he is using a lot of juice. so i am doing this for him for a cheap christmass pressent.

It sounds similar to wiring up a charge line for like a travel trailer... Are you using a 7 pin pollack type connector? I would go with at least a 8AWG wire back to the battery with a isolator probably solenoid operated so the dump trailer doesn't drain your vehicle battery. The solenoid would operate whenever the ignition is on. Make sure you have a 30 or 50A circuit breaker in line also. Go for it.
