Hate to sound like a newb..... but I've been towing with big or hopped up diesels for toooo many yrs.

GF has an 07 H3 with the 3.7, does have offroad package so slightly larger tires.

I'm headiung to Navarre beach soon, about 12 hrs, pretty flat ground. Towing a 24' jetboat, 4500 lbs on the trailer. Yea, I know it "will" do it and local I would not even ask (not had a chance to try yet).

If I take the H3 instead of the Dodge srw 3500/cummins, will I be kicking myself the whole way there? I don't care if it's slow to accelerate or likes 3rd on the hills, the hummer will just plain be better to get around in when I'm there. Trailer tow's nice, long WB casue it's a boat trailer has 4 wheel surge discs. I just want a similar average speed and be able to run 5mph over posted limits etc....

IMHO - it's worth a try. It can't hurt it if your are conscientious which I know you will be.

If it were my choice - I'd take the Dodge. :D

It should be fine to tow it that distance but it will probably really like 3rd gear. It's more of a sail behind me but I tow my 5,500 pound camper with my Alpha and you really know it's back there. Anything over 70 and it likes to start hunting gears and that's in an Alpha (with 35s). Your boat will more likely not create as much drag which will be a plus. I towed my Scout on a trailer with my '06 (3.5 liter) about 2 hours each way and it was in 3rd most of the time. Or course Scout and trailer had to be more than 5,000 pounds though. I am not sure I would pull my camper on a 12 hour each way trip but it can certainly be done without any issues.

I towed my 4500lb jeep from North Carolina to Moab and back with my '07 H3. Total trip was 4,400 miles.

If you have any head wind at all, just plan on buying a concrete block to lay on the gas pedal, but other than that, it was fine.

I'm going with the sure thing/Dodge. I'll try it local a bit and maybe two hour trips to closer lakes.... then I'll decide.
