I was planning on putting in a 425 into my hauler, but now I am hearing things about weak cranks. any truth to a 425 crank being weaker than a 350 crank?

From the recent reading I've done on BB Caddies, the 425 crank is weaker relative to the 472 and 500 cranks.

A good place to get information on Caddies is Maximum Torque Specialties(I don't have a link handy but goto google) They have a BB Caddy message board that the shop owner and other caddy experts regularly answer questions.

Given how easy it is to find a 472, why the 425? :p

You shouldn't have any problems with a 425, it's a little small, but it's a good motor. I've ran two of them. I had a completely stock 425, in a completely stock 79 Chev Malibu 4dr. I ran head-to- head against a local Guy in NM (when I lived there) who had about $13,000 into his primered 76 camaro and I only lost by a fender after missing a gear and throwing a fan belt! NOT TOO BAD!!

I am curious about the caddy motors myself. I am buying an 85 Blazer with a 472 already in. I have only been around one caddy in my life about 25 years ago and I was so little I barely remember it.
Are they a good reliable motor?
Also how strong are they, this truck has a 6" lift with 38" swampers and 4.10 gears.

The friend who has it claims it will be more powerful then my stock 454 I had ran in an old blazer I once owned and that motor rocked. Thanks.
