Last night I started to take apart my rear axle to fix the locker and I have two problems, that I hope someone has faced and may be able to give me some pointers or tips.

1. The locker fell into the bottom of the axle housing. I have been able to slide it up onto the axle shaft so its not floating loose in the housing. Do I need to try and somehow get it back into the 3rd member so it will rotate properly?
2. The second problem, is the ring gear has become stuck on the axle housing before I could rotate it (in the vertical position). I may need to grind the top of one of the teeth on the ring gear to get it free, not sure. Maybe I can fit a sazall blad in there to trim around the gear on the axle housing? Anyone had this problem?

Any help would be appreciated!

As long as the locker collar is out of the way of rotating the diff, it should be fine wherever it is.

Need pic on the second one. Did you try to pull it up too hard before you rotated diff 90 degrees to get it out (and now it is literally stuck to housing?)

Yep that's what happened. I used a bit of extra force along with the weight of the third to try and twist it before I got the collar out of the way.

The third will swivle left and right, but the ring gear is literally stuck to the housing.

Can I remove the bolts that hold the carrier inplace? I can't remeber if there is a nut and cotterpin on the inside that would prevent this from happening?

did you tap the two locating dowls into the case some times they jam up in the boltholes if you havent
if its the ring gear thats jamed can you not spin the pinion to free it up(or have you let the full weight of the diff so its jambed up solid
i usualy spin the diff before you pull just try and wiggle it back in so its cose together (i do know how heavy they are but it will come out "you never forget your first pulled mog diff")
as for the locker collor/shoes leave them in the bottom of the case

Good news, last night I had to tap on the side of the ring gear with a drift and a 8lb hammer to knock it loose. After that I was able to rotate it and remove it without issue.

Thanks for the comments!
