I've read a lot of info. about both the pro comp mud terrain's and the BFG Mud terrain. Many people say the pro comp's sidewall's are weak...(35X12.50X15)
4-BFG's- $620
4-Pro Comp's- $498 (buy 3, one free)

Which would you rather buy
Pro Comp or BFG?

35x.12.50x15 wildcat ext's from les schwab are great on and off the street, or TSL if you dont drive on the street a bunch.

Although, the 38.5x14.50 SX *REALLY* gets my vote - so "other".

I've been happy with my BFGs. They have their limits, but they are good on the street for those of us that DD our trail rigs.

I don't mind the BFG for a street tire but the procomps SUCK .. these must be the noisyest pieces of shit I have ever heard.. I have some 33's that came on a truck I bought and they make so much noise it is crazy. In the snow They don't work for shit either.. . If I wanted noise like that I would by a bogger or sx and loved every minute of them:D

I run BFG M/T's and think they work great for my 40 miles plus a day Daily Driver with weekend wheelin when I can. If my 4Runner was for off-road only I would have a set of SX's.

$118 Walmart specials. They're actually produced by General Tire I think. 6 ply side wall. nice tread design...

Might want to double check those sidewalls. I know some Mickey's are like that, but I doubt the walmart ones have 6 ply sidewalls. A six ply load rating maybe, but not sidewalls.

Anyhow. In the size Blue82 is loking for, I vote 'other'; MT/Rs

Yeah they are a 2 ply side wall. People call and make me do price checks on those tires all day. No I dont wark at walmart, work at Discount Tire. But people still compare those tires to like a BFG or some sh!t. Gets old.. haha

Have any of ya'll ever had goodyear MTRs? how are they on te road as far a noise goes? i had a set of some piecer Centurian MTs, and they were lick fawking banshees at any speeds over 45mph on my daily driver... i finally sold em and bought BFG ATs... nice tires, but I'm wanting something a little more agressive for my next set.

MTRs are the quietest mud terrains I have ever heard. They are very noticably more quiet than even the BFGs.

I actually prefer the noise TSLs and SXs make to radials. They're louder, yes, but it's a much lower hum instead of the radial roar or whine. A lot easier to tolerate, and hear the radio over.

SXs SXs SXs SXs. 'Nuff said.

I had 33" ProComps on my 4Runner. They worked fine. I never cut a sidewall and I thought they performed well. I know what everyone says and this is just my experience. They were cheap and did the job well.

Now I have grooved sx's, they beat the shit out of you but are susposed to work great(haven't got to try the out yet).

if youre gonna wheel in mud, do not buy mt/r's... sure the name says mt but imo they absolutely suck in mud... bfg's are way better although like already mentioned they have their limits... for a dd id go bfg- both my yota and k5 have them- for a wheel only or low-moderate street driving id go with swampers

I had a set of bfgs on my bronco, when I bought new tires I switched to pro-comps and they work great out in the desert. good floatation in sand. I have a little time on them at los coyotes indian res. (rocker terrian) still work good haven't been below 20 psi though.due to weight . I'am planning on putting them on my 4runner or I may buy the x-terras.

Oh by the way 4wparts suck.... I will be buying them else where

I have 33" BFG muds on my 5500 lb ram. They still have at least 10k miles left on them, and i have 42k miles on the set. A guy i know has about 16k on his procomp muds, and they look almost exactally as worn as mine. He has 32" on a cherokee. Looks like his will last 20k. I put my money on the BFG's. They work good, just MAJORLY SUCK IN THE RAIN. I cant keep my truck straight. Plan on trying out the goodyears next, after that, i am back to all terrains :(

I have the Pro-Comps. They work well in the snow, on rocks they also grip quite nicely. I have put about 20k miles on them with a locker and they still have 50% left on them. my only complaint is the shitty ass sidewall. It sucks soo bad.

WELL LIKE I SAID ON THE LAST TIRE POLL 2 DAYS AGO . I HAVE BOTH BFG'S IN THE FRONT AND MTR'S IN THE REAR . THE BFG'S KM MT'S LAST TWICE AS LONG AS THE MTR'S. BUT AS YOUR DAILY DRIVER THEY WEAR TOO FAST . THEY PERFORME GREAT ON SNOW ,SAND OR ROCKS BUT THEY PACK UP WITH MUD BAD. I RUN ABOUT 8-10 PSI IN THEM AND THE SIDE WALLS LOOK GREAT. FOR DD BFG KM MT 'S GET MY VOTE .

I've always run the bfg muds on everything I've owned and loved them.

I have a set of the 35" pro comps on the 4-rnr now, that I got from a buddy. They had 3 runs on them..............1 to a granite outcropping. After me, they have 4 more runs (1 more to the granite) on them and are throwing rubber like a pornstar worried about safe sex. I run 9psi (with the factory top on it) and have yet to have a problem with the sidewall being cut, etc., but they are starting to seperate. They ride like a bag of assholes (complete shit) now.

I'd go BFG for a a daily/ trail................or swampers for the trail.

If you can afford the extra bit of cash I'd go with the BFGs over the pro-comps, in the long run they're just a better tire IMO and will be worth the cash down the road.

You can't go wrong with the BFGs but you might go wrong with the procomps.

TRD- Where the heck did you find the MT/R for $612? I looked them up at 4WPW and they go for 195.95/1 or $784/4. I'ed be interested in them, but they're kinda pricy.

Right now my truck is on the street about 10% rocks 90%. The SX's look tempting, but they are a little pricy too at $192/1 or $764/4.

Techman (friend of mine) has had his BFG's forever and drives them hard on and off the trail. He took them through the hammers and loved them. Also, he had them down to abut 7psi and they worked reeeally nice. Almost too nice. (He bent a rock-crawler up in the process though.)

There looks like a lot of angry people that have the pro comp's. I guess I'm leaning toward the BFG and maybe MT/R or SX if I can find a price that's close to the BFG's ($625).

Thanks for the feedback everyone! (and no flamin' :p )

try www.tirerack.com then take their prices to americas tire. Americas tire wants business, and matches tire racks prices. I again put my vote on mtr's, but if you are wheeling that much, go sx;s. My buddy busted up the sidewall in his BFG mud just doing light wheeling at hollister (though, they were the old style and not the KM). But if i had to choose between the BFG and the pro-crap, i dont think it woudl take me longer than about a second to go for BFG's (even though they do suck ass in wet weather).

for offroad, i'm sick of watchin swampers pass me and my BFGs in the mud.

but for DD, go BFG MT KM. last long time (50K+), quiter than most mts, tough sidewall.

DEFINITELY have the BFGs siped. makes em last longer, makes em stick in rain and snow. my siping has about worn thru, and i can tell a huge difference.

This board is full of people who must have more cash then me.

I have only one off road vehicle, my DD 82 TOY. I wish I had the cash for a off road only project. But honestly I would use a ZUK for that, Small and light enough to have better off road skills. Plus all of my nearly complete TOY spare parts I have would make a total replacement for the ZUK running gear.

I run BFG's, they hold up well off road and they are hard to beat on the road. If I had unlimited cash I would buy MTR's, but I cant afford to replace them, especialy more often than BFG's AT.

Road noise isnt horrible but I preffer to ride to work every day knowing I am not permanly doing damage to my ears.

I've never had a problem with BFG sidewalls, they hold up just fine for most abuse. Most bang for your buck on a DD, trail rig who knows? Everybody wants to say "this one is best" but really how do you know? Who can say you wheel where/when/how they do? Only time and experience can give you a good answer.

Blue82, Check tirerack (http://tirerack.com) as said before also, I would goto america's tire (although there aren't any in our area)

A note about America's tire store - THEY ARE THE FUCKING SHIT. Today they ballanced my 31's for free even though I didn't buy them there, have never had them ballanced there or even done buisness with them.

I told them I had a vibration but that I had bought them 2 years ago and just put them on my DD and that I had just had them ballanced at another store in SLO (not America's Tire) and he said they would do a free ballance check on them, then when they were out of ballance (FUCK THE TIRE STORE IN SLO) they reballanced them for free. I will gladly do buisness with a company that stands behind products like that, imagine how they treat their own customers.

Someone dropped this into my inbox the other day... ;)

37x12.50 MT/R @ Walmart: $160 each.

And for the record, I agree with what Zags said. My DD runs 36" TSLs right now, and I'll be stepping up to 38.5x14.50s on it shortly. Keep your radials. They're not worth it - even on a daily driver.
