Looking for a source for large metric taps...19mm, 21mm 23mm, steering stuff mostly. I did a POR search and found nothing of the sort...any leads?

Kurt.. as you know the large and especially the left-hand taps are rare and spendy. I have pretty much the full set for Toyota and 1-ton steering components. Lately, the best prices and quality for the hard-to-get taps that I have purchased are from E-taps (http://www.e-taps.com) . The taps are made in Poland, so delivery time can be several weeks. They are high quality taps -- much better than the Asian units.

Jack has the right stuff. Of course these days, you are almost better off reaming out your arms to an SAE taper, and then getting weldable tube ends....

Yes they do, but unfortunately not what bfautah was asking for. If you look at McMaster's web site for left-hand taps, the important ones for Cruiser steering are not listed. These are the 19, 21 and 23 x 1.5 mm taps.

McMaster-Carr does not list those taps but they can be special ordered thru them. It takes an actual phone call and the lead time is only about seven to ten days.

That's where I got my 23mm right and left hand taps, made in the USA ;)

i think i got my first set of metrics through mcmaster...i just want to have two of all the major ones now that i'm making more and more custom rods for mini's and LC's. looks like the poland place is a sweet option....

what did mcmaster charge for a custome tap??? i think i paid like $125 ea. does that sound right???

I don't remember now but that 23mm left hander was expensive. The right hand tap was up there too, just because it was a special order.

I do remember that they were about four times the price of the SAE size taps we have...
