What is the difference in using straight CO2 and CO2/Argon when welding besides the cost.:D

The biggest thing is less splatter so far less clean-up.

I USE STAIGHT CO2. IT TAKES SOME GETTING USED TO BUT I LIKE IT. BURNS HOTTER, A LOT CHEAPER TO FILL A BOTTLE. IT DOESNT LOOK SHINY AND NICE WHEN YOUR DONE LIKE ARGON MIX. SPATTER ISNT THAT DIFFERENT BUT THE GUN GETS DIRTY A LOT QUICKER. IT ALL LOOKS THE SAME AFTER A NICE FRESH COAT OF PAINT THO.

Why dont you use the anti splatter spray? all the welding supply places sell it and it works great. I spray that shit every where before I weld.

At home I use mix. at work we use straigh CO2. Both work great. I am thinking of switching over. the only problem I have is with the boss, he makes us run the gas to low. He wants it at 4 lbs, while 5 lbs is ALOT better and 6 lbs is about perfect, for me anyway.

I was told it runs about half the price of mix.

co2 is best for mig welding with non flux wire. unimix works for mild steel and alloy wire.

I don't know where you guys get your bottles filled but up here the charge is almost the same no matter what gets put in or the size of bottle. They basically charge for hooking it up to the charging rack.

It's about 30 Canadian a fill on CO2/ARGON for the little tiny bottles, around 40 for the largest.

I run Co2 as it is cheaper where I shop and in a pinch you can hook it to your keg-o-rator to get the  flowing!!!

And I am cheap and poor and I have a 110V mig machine that needs all the help on the heat end that I can get.
