: tire fix
xextr3m3 11-25-2002, 10:36 PM ok...so I put a small hole in an MTR (ran over 1/2" drill bit. It got stuck in chuck end first) im not having any luck using the stickey plugs and America's tire already said they wouldn't plug it.........do I have any options other than throw a patch on the inside and use it as a spare
GRMhick 11-25-2002, 10:52 PM 1/2" bit is a small hole?where is the hole? and where did ya buy the tires from??
xextr3m3 11-25-2002, 10:57 PM the hole is between the treads and I bought it from a private party
the hole itself is not phisically 1/2 in but there was a 1/2 in masonary bit stuck in there
GRMhick 11-25-2002, 11:04 PM ohh, thats can be tough.. did the bit go al the way through? Maybe try another americas tire? do you have a 5th MTR? if you do, i say just run that. BTW, know of any place that does a decent job mounting and balencing 35", and doesent charge an arm and a leg? the Pot head shop i normally go to (yeah, they are all normally stoned out of their minds), charges me $17 to dismount, re-mount, balance, and valve stem, per tire. and i got 5 i need ot get done...

Thats actually a pretty good deal
Call around, find a semi service shop...
There are plugs that can fit VERY large holes and VERY large boots (rubber patches).
If anything it can be booted and then tubed...
Don't give up on it.

Seventeen dollars????? Shit , I thought I was getting raped paying eight bucks a tire............
gunracer1 11-26-2002, 03:51 PM i have had them use a patch with a built in plug. they had to do it like a regular patch then pull the plug section fom the out side. the hole i had was every bit of a 1/2" and that tire went another 30k after that.

$10 a tire is about average around here unless it is really large. $17 a tire, that must hurt.

YOU ARE KIDDING?
when i drove radial mud terrains on the rocks, i had tyres with holes you could get your arm through, and the shop would patch the tyres up (i dismount and re-seat) they always said its for a tractor and will never be driven on the street, i just nodded, those tyres were ONLY used for street after about 3 months of rock they were no good for anything, except to finish wearing them out!!
BJ On Roids 11-26-2002, 08:53 PM 2 of the tyres i had to run tubes on, cause there were multiple small lacerations throughout the sidewall
broncorob 11-27-2002, 06:50 AM What am I missing here:confused:
a .5" hole is pretty damn small. Not trying to be a smartass but are you following the directions? Using the reamer/cleaner tool, plenty of cement, and enough plugs? Fill up the hole with plugs until you can't get anymore in and let it dry before you try filling it back up.

thats what i was thinking to.. 1/2" hole should be EASILY pugged with about 5 or 6 plug strips. follow the directions above ;)
I have personaly shoved 43 plugs in a bfg sidewall to get it off the trail. was about a 4" gash. fawkin tire looked like it was being humped by some crazy caterpiller or something. held air and got him off the trail though. lol
