Does anyone other than Man-a-fre make a u-bolt flip kit? Anyone over there in springover land have an old set lying around for sale? Nolan new of a used set several months back but they'd already been snagged. Seems like they'd be pretty simple to make if I had something to make the nice cuts in metal that thick. Any ideas...
I'll try posting in the wanted section, but hope to get a better response here. Need to get rid of the rock magnets ASAP.

Have you seen the ubolt plates by Land Cruiser Advanced Handling? I like that setup better than the flip kit and they are much less expensive.

Nolan,
Yes, I've seen those on a 40 in our club. His were bent up aat the edges from the torque on the u-bolts, but worked fine nonetheless. Thanks for reminding me, I'd seen em up at GSMTR this year but had forgotten where he got em from.
Looked up their website, and dropped em an e-mail on price and compatibility with running shims.
I would prefer the u-bolt flip kits, but the LCAH plates may be a more economical solution...
Thanks again.

Just make the spring plates from a half piece of 3 x 3 inch 1/4 inch wall tube and weld a couple of strips of 1/4 inch x 1.25 inch strap on the sides, They need more gussets to resist the torque loading than the LCAH design; 2 on each side of each bolt. Lotsa people in my club run these plates. I would post pictures, but my ISP is down.

Here ya go:
U bolt plates
The 3x3 tube is for after market springs; for OEM springs, you need 3.5.

Pinhead,
Now I understand, originally thought you were referring to round tube.
Thanks

Ever seen or heard someone else saying that those homemade U bolt plate broke? I'm planning on fabbing a similar design for my Bj40, but since it's my daily driver, I wan't to be sure they are up for the task!

I drew some up on a cad program and was going to see if I could have them made out of billet steel... I have seen some that got bent/bowed up and looked squirrly to me:eek:
Now I got to find a machinist.

You definitely want to use your best bootie fab technique on all the welds. I busted out a new box of 1/8 7018 rod and made three passes on the corner welds on the top plates; two on top and one on the bottom. You can't lay a bead right next to the bolt hole because you need room for the washer. Since there are gussets on both sides of the bolt, the top plate didn't deform after torquing them down to 110 ft lbs.
