: Scepter fuel and water cans
Nevada Ben 05-19-2011, 05:37 PM Somewhere, there is a politician that is responsible for this not being easy to find.
I need a 20L MWC Any clues? Looks like the same thing happened to Wedco.
How is it that I can only find inferior garbage? How is this safer or better? And if you search, people are wanting to put fuel in their water cans... obviously because the available fuel cans are total crap.
I'm not trying to find the banned fuel cans. I know there's nothing I can do about that. I just want a water can.
Rockit 05-19-2011, 05:53 PM Fuel cans are only available used. Try ebay. Water you can still get new at various places.
whoops...I was wrong. Looks like you can get some new ones.

Todd W 05-23-2011, 04:27 PM I tried to buy some there 2 or 3 years ago and they wouldn't ship to me :(
Skerb 05-24-2011, 05:10 AM You can buy the MWCs from LC Industries brand new for $18.99 each. minimum $50 order as I recall. I did a group buy a few months ago and bought 15 of them.

Glad I got in on those at 15 a couple years ago :D
Some people say the inside will turn your fuel gummy but I just did a 2 month sit of fuel in a MWC and used it and examined it looked/felt/smelled fine to me, and ended up working fine in the ATV and Jeep i6.
The MWC really sucks for transfer though since there is no correct nozzle, and no vent. Super siphon works but is damn slow...

Ok I suck at the internet :homer: - do you have a link for these containers. My search came up empty
Thanks

The way their site's setup you can't link direct to an item.
IF you search for water container you should be able to find them.

Big Rich 05-24-2011, 12:26 PM Thanks, found them..... did they come with some kind of spout?

Nope, but there's some how-tos for adding a hand pump to use in camp for washing up/etc. They're affordable and very very rugged so you`ll find a lot of misc uses.
uglyscout 05-24-2011, 04:50 PM After many pages of searching the LC INdustries part number is 906396
And they have greatly increased the price to a full $19.99
Go here and type in the part number it should work.... LC Industries (https://www.redcheetah.com/lci/browse.php?sess_id=0a1af27feba76e6db7e710c2eb71058 5&category_id=20483&browse_page=9)
br0nc0xrapt0r 05-27-2011, 11:28 AM They suck, even brand new. I have never seen one not leak. My advice is to try and source some of the steel cans with the screw in bung to keep them closed.

where do they leak from?
br0nc0xrapt0r 05-28-2011, 11:09 AM where do they leak from?
The threads and the vent on the lid, they also connect the cap via a stap going into the vent hole that often comes out and leaks. Remember if the gov. bought it then it was built by the lowest bidder.

I`ve had 0 problems with my Scepter Fuel and water cans.
EDIT: And I`m not talking about ones that road on the back of a tank or hummer in the 125*F for years either.. those are no-better than Surplus Steel cans they just look better ;)

Dude... seriously, look at my location. I know at first I thought that the guys just handle them rough or lose gaskets ect. But I have got a couple brand new out of the plastic and had very similar results with all of them. I used a plastic bag pulled over the opening and screwed the lid on over it to keep it from leaking once. I think I have had enough experince with these cans both new and used to accuratley describe the suck that is the scepter can. Ironically the water cans do not leak much at all! I would put my trust in those any day. However getting water spilled on your pack isn't as bad as JP-8
Mawnov 05-30-2011, 10:55 PM In all my time in the sand box I saw plenty of cans in all sorts of conditions that did not leak. Yes some did, and most often what I thought was a leak was just some fuel that got spilled on the side from when it got filled. Now what I did have leak fairly often was the pour spout (donkey dick). Odds are that was just from a bad gasket or in some cases no gasket.
After my time in and expirence with scepter cans, I am now looking for some fuel and water cans for personal use.

The metal spouts or the plastic ones? the metal ones were always good to me. The plastic ones are garbage.
Mawnov 05-31-2011, 10:32 PM The plastic ones are garbage.
That I can agree with.

So what brand of fuel tanks do you recommend and where to purchase these items in the USA?
And thanks for your service... take great care.

I get these from the military exchange, it's a store on base so mine are about 50 bucks. It's a lot of money for a gas can but they won't leak a drop. Also the metal spout from the sceptor cans fits right in there. The sceptor water cans are good to go just make sure the air vent screw isn't broken off.

Elwenil 06-04-2011, 02:00 PM I think we talked about it earlier in this thread but for me, the best cans I have found are the euro surplus fuel cans. Just avoid the oddball French ones with the non-standard spout.

Could be I'm reading yer complaint wrong ?
U talking about the Scepter MFC's or the Scepter CARB crap ?
I use the S MFC's... all my buddy's use them too...
none of them leak... regardless of mounting position... ever.
Maybe you have the CARB compliant Scepter fuel can ?
those are some leaky pos's.
the only other reason a Scepter MFC might leak...
is...
if one were using a standard diesel seal, when filled with gasoline
^ the later situation could possibly crack the flange as well...
due to the seal swelling...
to eliminate the possibility of leaking...
a "Viton" seal must be used when filling with gasoline.

anybody ever used the stainless cans on this site, those look pretty awesome for a water can, the plastic ones always make the water taste shitty.
Mawnov 06-21-2011, 06:26 PM Dell, I am pretty sure most if not all of his experience with Scepter fuel cans is while serving over seas. I know most of the cans I used in my time in the desert would leak a little. I accepted it knowing that the cans had most likely been through alot and had ot been taken care of.
Todd W 06-22-2011, 08:22 AM The scepter fuel cans leak a minor amount as you turn them over so the vent can work properly. So 1 or 2 drops and then fast pouring and no leaks  works fine for me on my Scepter Fuel Cans. :p
Water cans air tight after years of usage and throwing around too.
If your gonna use the scepter can half turned over it`ll put fuel all over the ground the vent is NOT MADE to work like that.
Either way their price now is way too high for any fuel can - I like the DO Metal cans but now their price is insane too!

Yes all of my experience with leaky Scepter cans is from Military experience, all the ones I used at work leak and so do the new ones. They hold for a bit but are destine to fail. Some do not agree with me and to that I say bravo you found the holy grail of scepter cans.

Bingo... in addition i have two previously GI used Sceptor fuel cans. When the diesel seal is used for petrol not only can it leak, it also swells and cracks the inner lip on the cap itself. Even with a new Viton gasket this cap is gonna leak. I have two of them in garage... one was as i explained.
Theres a Pinz/Unimog surplus dealer here in the states that brought in a few containers of the Swiss metal cans, i bought 8 and every one doesnt leak a drop. Cheap too.. good option for those who need fuel cans.
The LCI water cans are hit and miss. I bought 8 of those as well and 3 leaked at the vent on cap. LCI was quick with replacements and they all fixed the leaks.

TacoDell 06-24-2011, 07:18 PM I had two defective cap flanges, both had seal retainer ring failure...
and so, I e-mailed my complaint to Scepter...
and they responded promptly :)
and they sent me two new flanges...
Well... actually, they sent two new caps, retainer straps and viton seals
Only they fubar'd a little and got the cap and strap color wrong
(sand/sand instead of ODG/red)
Long story, but not the email reps fault.
as I felt compelled to complete this trans via LL,
as they requested certain private information, in order to ship to citizens of the US, (required when using a courier) ?
during the LL exchange, is likely, where the glitch occured.
regardless... all I wanted/needed were the flanges themselves...
* oh... and btw, the flanges on these sand colored caps, are ODG too !
(not that one might care or notice, when the caps are installed)
the 'nucks post office's are currently striking...
so shipping them courier isn't the cheapest @ $ 11.
* and it should be mentioned...
they did request that the failed flanges be returned for study....
so me being the honest joe... will return them at a deficit of $ 11.
I guess I really have no complaint,
in my customer service experience with Scepter...
Communication with the email rep was good and shipping was prompt, regardless of the cap color glitch
I'm pleased with my investment in Scepter MFC's
and the company's support of my investment.
I just thought I'd share my recent experience with Scepter :)
