yea i know do the search I have. I want to know if anyone has swapped a straight axle on a pre 97 f150. If you did do you have any specs or pics that i can take a look at. I am going to swap a RC Dana 60 and a sterling 10.25 in it and would like to know what people have done both good and bad. thanks.

Are you shooting for coils or leafs?

I am trying on going with coils

The swap is very easy. You have a few extra steps using a D60. If you want to go D60. Cut a set of c-bushing mounts off of an EB front axle, or 77- f-150 front axle. Grind/machaine them out till they fit over the larger axle tube. Weld them on, bolt on the radius arms, bolt coils to the arms, set into place. You do not need to replace the coil bucket on the frame, they are the same shape coil on top. bolt on new radius arm brackets.

A few notes for ya. You should run about 6" of lift to help clear the crossmember. Use 79- coils. All in all it is the easiest SAS there is to do.

A 4WD 97 F150 won't have coil buckets, or coils for that matter.

You're thinking of a 80-96 F150.... right?

What about for a 1990 Bronco? I have just about enough saved up to do the SAS in the Bronco, and was wondering how much liftand what kind (coils/leaf springs) I would need to run 42" TSL's? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

I used the stock 78/79 arms until I made some custom ones when I first did the swap on mine. I used the TTB radius arm brackets because they had the best clearance (didn't hang down much). You'll just have to torch the rivets off and move them back a bit.

If you don't mind cutting or getting/making a new front bumper. You can fit 42's with 6" coils and cut outs. They will be tight, but will fit. To make sure they fit I would either get the coil piviots(or just a spacer), or the 9" coils. For the back you have a bunch of choices. 6" springs. 4" springs with block, or shackle flip. F-250/350 springs with block, and or shackle flip.

The reason why I said PRE 97 was I know alot of guys that have these rigs that want to do this to get rid of the TTB and by saying PRE 97 it covers 80 to 96 right. So it made more since to me thats all. Just to make you happy it is a 95.

FYI --- You guys who are not as fabricating friendly as others. Fabritech makes a complete kit. For something like 4k you get everything including a rebuild D44 with locker.

I do not want to give them 4k of my hard earned $$ I have better things than to give it to them. I figure the 77.5-79 set up can not be that hard to adapt and i can fab up what ever else needs to be done. Plus why would I put a dana 44 when i have a 60 ready to go. Plus think of this a straight axle f150 with 8 lugs and a lift kit that was not 4k but like less than 1k. i couls use the extra cash for tires gears lockers women who knows what else. Thanks for all the input. If anyone has pics I would love to see them before i start tearing into the project.

yeah i know this is OLD, but i'm bored... 53cj3aflattie, did you ever resolve this??? i have done SASs on TTB and IFS fords with help from friends. you're smart to avoid that fabritech crap- i don't think any 3 SAS projects would total 4K. :rolleyes: if you need anymore info ask me... one of our projects was a 95 F-150...

I am using the fabritech extended radius arms for a 79 F150. I am using the coil buckets off of a 78 bronco. I am going to pull off the ratchet straps tonight when I put in the new tranny and then bolt up the new shock mounts. It looks so much cleaner with out all the TTb crap.
